Put it this way if our last 4 games are something like

Chelsea A
Man City H
Man Utd A
Arsenal H

I would be worried

Would be nice to start with a good mix, something like

Stoke H
Burnley A
Liverpool H

Potential points against three 'strands' of teams Top/ Middle and Bottom and would be a good yardtsick to judge where we may fit in

If this season has taught us anything it is that the fixtures just don't matter. At the beginning of the season the top teams were throwing points away. There were constant upsets. Sunderland and us both had incredible runs regardless of the tough fixtures (points against Chelsea, City, Everton, Manchester United etc) and Norwich got nothing in their tough run.

The only thing that really matters is taking points from your relegation rivals. We were pretty ruthless with that last season under TP. In fact over the entire season the only bottom half teams we didn't get at least 3 points from last season were Swansea, Norwich and Fulham (one point each). That accounted for about 37 points last season. With TP for the whole season I can't see us getting much less against the 9 teams beneath us. With the way we play we will be a nightmare team for the top half clubs especially at home.

Unless we lose TP or have some sort of mass player issue we aren't going to play much worse next season.

That means for us to go down 7 of the 9 clubs beneath us would have to improve enough (or in the case of the 3 newly promoted sides play well enough) to pick up more points than us with TP over a full season - last season they pretty much had a 3 month headstart and didn't achieve it.

The thing that usually happens is a club gets dragged away at the bottom from 17th place, this didn't happen this season.

By lets say end of March even February a club is stranded away from 17th place and it becomes two from so many.

By the end of April this season there were just two points between 17th and 20th.

Interesting seasons for Hull and ourselves as it's '2nd season syndrome' where other teams now know us better.

Hull of course will be in the Europa League.

Hmmm kinda do, kinda dont - tell it to Norwich, Cardiff or Fulham fans who's games pretty much went to form all season, a bit like horse racing the favourites might have a few blips but invariably will come out on top.

Agree though as with this year we will need to make sure we finsh as high up the bottom ten as we can

Well they should have picked up more points on their easier games... if Norwich had the final 5 fixtures after Christmas they would just have been cut adrift at the bottom and been trying to climb back and hope others drop points - the outcome would have been the same.

Doesn't matter when we play City now. they can only spend 49 million on players this summer due to FFP penalty. They have to sell to spend more.
Should be a doddle playing them .

Not worth second-guessing the fixture list. Let the chips fall where they may.

Just like our supposed knowledge of the opposition team before its announced we wont be second guessing the fixture list as we will know it in advance then we will doing some advance planning!!

I remember reading a few years ago on another site the idea that the fixtures should be fixed in the way that the last round of fixtures should be arranged that 1st v 2nd, 3rd v 4th and so on as they finished at the end of the season feeling it could maximise the excitement on the last day.

They said it would never be done though as there is to much chance that you could be wasting fixtures between top teams because the winners have already been decided anyway which TV wouldn't like.
