I should imagine you would then have to factor in the Overseas TV rights as well, which would also add a few more million dollars to the pot..... The overseas figures are already included in this. it is the 'total' TV payout.

Absolutely this. You can be damned sure our number of appearances on Sky will increase exponentially next season because the atmosphere we create translates to TV and viewers enjoy experiencing the "Palace effect". In this way, it is not an exaggeration to say that we (supporters) are directly making the club at least a few million a year. Personally, I think the number of our sky appearances had more to do with who we were playing, rather than the atmosphere. Looking at a general audience, the story or David v Goliath is more of a draw than 90 mins of singing and drum banging. We were also pretty fortunate to have a say on the title towards the last few games of the season.

Pleasing to see us above 7 other clubs. Found it quite funny how few times Stoke were shown considering they got rid of Pulis to play better football.
I think they'll certainly be looking at our fixtures more favourably than they were before this season.

Be interesting to see what our operating cost is now we in the Premier League, how much profit there is if any and what they going to do with it. But for now just let them enjoy a well deserved holiday. I think people need to rememeber that wages will be significant, as well signing on fees for the number of transfers we did. Loan fees for Jerome and Ince significant too. We'll certainly have seen a jump in revenue - but personally I suspect the profit would be the region of the difference in finishing last and finshing 11th once everything is taken into account. The more I read on finances, the more I think fans should do all they can to steer clear of any thoughts about them. The lists of items that cost the club are almost endless. The Premier League seems completely mental in terms of things you "have to have" - £1million undersoil heating is the latest, the new gantry, the TV studio that wasn't used once, the additional cameras for match coverage and goal line technology, the electronuic advertising hoardings etc etc Then there is the money spent getting to the Premier League to think about. Then all the stadium improvements carried out. The player contracts. The paying the additional staff. Then paying the manager that left. Then bonuses. I honestly think the initial idea that promotion would transform the club was very different to reality - it's easy to see that irresponsible spending even off the back of the huge financial rewards of the top division could see what we've seen in many of the relegted teams having horriffic debt. You think about Bolton being £130million in the red in spite of a sustained spell in the top division. Hull needed rescuing in a big way. Cardiff nearly imploded getting there and had to accept the only person insane enough to take on their debt. Then there's the less lucky such as ourselves in the past, Charlton who have had multiple takeovers and are now a feeder club for a Belgian team and the extreme example of Portsmouth. Without sustained success or a very disciplined approach to spending, you have to have very deep pockets to survive. So if I read one thread next season asking where the £73million went and why we aren't siging players for £20million I will lose it. Edited by Hambo (15 May 2014 1.25pm) Indeed. I suspect we've done rather well all told in terms of the season. We signed a few players but not I'd imagine any on crazy wages, and most of the squad were already on championship contracts. But one player on 20k a week and a 6m transfer fee costs 7m in the first season, and at least 1m a season there after - and thats a very cheap premiership player (ie probably s**t). A premiership mediocre player could cost between 5 to 7.5 m a year in wages, 6-10m to sign. So over a five year an average premiership player is going to cost 25m.

Yes but from what I understand every team is given an allocated number of games before Christmas, in the interest of fairness. What happens after that is down to the general interest in those games, i.e. what "story" can Sky push for those games.

I read that our annual wage spend for this season was around £30 million so all the revenue associated with being a premier league club also comes with all the expenses.

They then get more towards the tail end of the season due to their relevant fixtures and how it effects their season. For example, teams in the champions league tend to rake in more TV money because of games moved to Sundays and also relegation/title battles. From memory, our televised games this season: Spurs There's a pattern there, no?

Edited by Hambo (15 May 2014 1.25pm) Excellent post Hambo, perfectly sums the insanity of the money and expectations. The clubs mentioned are all relevant to us as it could be argued that they are all similar in size & stature to us. Let's not forget the complete mess that is Leeds United in this, a club that has a history & core fan base significantly larger than ours and through chasing the dream in an uncontrolled manner have floundered from owner to owner and have got nowhere near where we are now.

80% of them at home also shows a pattern.
