What a video!
Yes, let's have a poll of those who were around during
Noades' tumultuous years. I'd like to think, that like me, most will recognise the good things he did for Palace far outweighed the bad.

I agree that some very good things happened on his watch but what he did with the club left it very exposed and vulnerable. The bad very much outweighs the good.

You could meet a woman who gives you the best blowjob ever but then proceeds to completely f*cks your life up - I suspect your feelings about her wouldn't exactly be charitable.

This plethora of good things which outweigh the bad of which people speak - what actually are they ???

Just a few negatives off the top of my head for now...

He appointed Steve Coppell but also appointed Dario Gradi, Alan Mullery and Ernie Whalley.

He certainly took more from the club than he ever put in, much, much more - that's beyond arguement

He registered token protest when LFC were allowed back in Europe early to protect his aspirations to be a voice in the football establishment

He didn't back Coppell transfer wise after the third place

His dark age comments about black footballers (and don't anybody say they were taken out of context - read them, there is no grey area)

Knowingly sold the club and exposed it to massive risk to a man he knew simply couldn't put up the asking price

Milked the club for years and stunted it financial growth and ultimately its stability was compromised

I wouldn't call it 'racist' what he said. There wasn't any malice or hatred involved, more highlighting what he saw, wrongly, as the difference between white and black players. It was just a rather silly and inaccurate generalisation.

There's plenty to hang him out to dry on other than that.

I shall never undestand the love fest for this person. As Cucking and one or two others have said sepereated ground from the club, shut down the Youth team system to name but two things.

Oh well at least I can go to next season's awards night knowing that this old git wont be mentioned, unless thay introduce an award for Assest Striping, in which case I nominate Pfizer as first winners.

I think if you investigated the accounts of CPFC2010 Ltd, you may well find that the freehold of the ground (and possibly the training ground too) does not appear, and is held by a separate organisation. With an entity as volatile as a football club can be, it is not wise to have all your eggs (or assets) in the same basket

That's correct, Ron Noades did not separate the club and ground, Goldberg and then Jordan done that, the former agreeing a purchase fee, then not being able to come up with that fee.

Then Jordan with the infamous I've brought the ground statement, which turned out to be far from the truth, they were at fault not Ron Noades, if he hadn't held onto the ground it could well have been lost for good under the stewardship of Goldberg and Jordan.

We quibble over terms, Sarge. Selling the club and not the ground very much separated the two. If Goldberg couldn't stump up for both, then Noades shouldn't have done the deal if he had the club's best interests at heart..

Personally I think Ron Noades deserves respect not only for what he did for the club, but respect by not speaking ill of the dead.

That's just crazy. Does someone become suddenly immune from criticism just because they're dead?

By saying the good outweighs the bad means there were some bad things Noades did. He was a corner shop proprietor who tried to use the same economics in the land of the supermarkets. He kept the shop open but under his ownership it would never become more than that. In the world of football, that meant Palace going backwards.

Oh I would agree Cuckers - its was more 'Love thy Neighbour' than Nick Griffin but at the time it mightily destabilised the club and soon after our black players all started going on their way - whatever they say now I don't think for a minute it didn't push them a little nearer the door

Anyhoo Uncle Ron - Good, Bad or just plain evil has been done to death on here ..everyone seems to have their place and they aint shifting

You could ask how many people on here would stick their neck out and buy a broken football club and try and make it work? You got to give him some credit for taking it on. Not many would I think...even you had the money.

There's doing that and retiring comfortably, you and your family. Then there's doing that and taking the maximum you can out of it to own several golf clubs whilst you sit back, coin it in, watch the club and fans you took advantage of, suffer for years because you kept the parts of most value and flogged the rest. Then charge rent for the match venue and training venue in one of the very golf clubs bought with the money.

Oh, and the Holmesdale was built with a grant following The Taylor Report. Uncle Ron, one of our own. The good times were good, then he decided he'd maximis his walk away money and 'so be it' to the consequences.

If they do, then the vilification of Saville and Cyril Smith shouldn't happen; surely no one would argue for that?
