Too many to recall - went to pretty much every game that season home and away - some brillinat games -

Anfield away towards the end was one of the best away atmospheres I have ever been in - lost 0-3 but outsung them all night and one particulr rendition of Stevie Coppells Red n Blue Army went on for about twenty minutes at full belt - at the end of the game the mickeys in the opposite stand actually clapped our support.

A Niall Quinn hat-trick for Man City against us at Selhurst Park in what was our only home league defeat that season (I think).

In those days city would have been the bigger team too.

I was ejected from the Arfur at that game after standing up and throwing my hands up and shouting FFS !!!! Just waited a bit and snuck back in

Think it ended 1-3

I'm another who was too young to remember this period of our history. How did we go from third to relegated? Has any club in history gone from such a high finishing position to relegation in just two seasons?

Edited by jpegnall (11 May 2014 9.54am)

Back in the 60`s Ipswich were relegated two years after being champions.

Is this a five minute argument, or the full half hour? [Link]

Not quite right. Also lost 1-3 home to Norwich (taken from Ian King's Crystal Palace - The Complete Record).

I remember it well. Memories that spring to mind are:

• Chelsea 2-1. Andy Gray pen and then getting sent off in a fierce punch up with Dennis Wise after 10 mins.
• Sheff Utd 1-0. Garry Thompson header
• Spurs 1-1 away. Gazza scored a good free kick before the ref blew his whistle
• Leeds 1-1. Very loud Leeds fans. Pouring with rain. Gordon Strachan was great.
• Notts Forest 2-2. A win would’ve put us top of the league. Lucky to get a draw after a hilariously bad 1st half performance by Rudi Hedman
• Arsenal 0-0. Offside goal for us should’ve stood
• Wimbledon 4-3. Great game. John Fashanu took a lot of stick but scored a great goal
• Coventry 1-0? David Speedie got sent off
• Luton just before xmas
• Sunderland 3-1 on Boxing Day. Salako scored two good goals
• Liverpool 1-0 live on ITV.
• Arsenal 0-4 away. Terrible!
• Man Utd 3-0. Salako scores another curler.

Delighted you agree with me about Salako's offside goal in the 0-0 home draw with Arsenal. Like I said, I was right in line and knew the lino was wrong.

A great season for Palace, capped by the ZDS (Full Members) Cup, Ian Wrights amazing hat trick at the final first team match played at Plough Lane (the second goal was a chip from just inside the halfway line) and the final match against Moan Utd which had Palace supporters singing "Stevie Coppell's Red & Blue Army" the entire second half. Palace did the moaners 3-0 with Wrighty scoring in the first half and Johnny Salad scoring a brace in the second, one of them a real screamer. The back 4 of Humphrey, Thorn, Ninja and Shaw surrendered only 41 goals, we did the scousers at Selhurst on national TV and we were in the hunt for the title deep into the season. A great year to be an Eagle.
