Didn't notice him for the entire 90 minutes, which most probably means he had a good game...

Whils mostly surrounded by Liverpool supporters I was next to a Man U supporter (he's Irish so I'll forgive him). He couldn't believe the amount of fouls Liverpool were getting away with, but the no ref wants to be accused of making a bad decision which cost a side the title with the British media.

I have to say it was great to see Glen Johnson not get a penalty. Both his feet were in the air behind him before the challenge. He should have been booked. If only we wasn't a cheat and had the courage to play properly he might have helped Liverpool win.

Hopefully we'll bring in citing soon where they can check how players fall down and give retrospective yellow cards if there is any hint of simulation.

Citing has to be the way forward - fines mean nothing, so banning players is the best way. How about a totting up system too that can result in point deductions for clubs that continue to offend (no not Brighton!!)

If you take diving in context with other offences like taking your shirt off or deliberate handball then in my opinion it should be a sending off offence for cheating. Would work really well if football used camera evidence.

sports a great hair transplant as well. would be better if it was a sub-standard wig , when he was running full pelt it would be flapping up and down like a an unhinged car bonnet going down the motorway

Ref had a good game, just wonder when the new part of modern football - corner wrestling - will come to an end?

With reference to our second goal, did you hear the comments of the Sky presenters in the studio that the defender should have taken one for the team and taken Bolasie out as he would not have been sent off as it was not a goal scoring opportunity as we know it, well just goes to show how wrong that phrase can be. With a break at that speed the ball ended up in their net from that move. We would have ended up with just a free kick in the centre.

I would have been impressed if Johnson had got anywhere near him, and he might have been sent off for dangerous play anyway

Think it was Coutinho they were talking about, who allowed YB to pass him just outside our box, way before he got to Johnson. If Coutinho had taken YB out he'd have been booked but all we'd have ended up with was a free-kick in a non-dangerous position and no second goal.

Agree Clattenburg had a good game though. makes Webb look like the attention-seeking baldy knob he is.

What little I saw of Monday's match, plus the matches I've seen of Mark Clattenburg, he certainly is a ref who is rather fit. He has been controversial in the past and was heavily criticized by Juve's coach for not being up to working a Europa League semi-final. Of course, Juve failed to score and was eliminated by Benfica, so rotten tomatoes and fish wrap come to mind. Like players, refs are only as good as his last/next game.

Not just saying this cos of the outcome, but I've always rated Mark Clattenburg. Definitely one of the better ones. Howard Webb would have ensured we lost 10-0.

^^^ agreed.
