Was it really that much worse? It was quieter for some periods, but I really enjoyed the majority stadium singing "We Love You". Even if it was only for a short time. Thinking back, people where was sitting were quieter, the crowd was different. The guy to my right was wearing a Palace top but didn't make a peep all game. (Not everybody is a cheery type of person, fair enough) The 2 guys to my left were Belgian tourists who clearly came to see Kompany, even if they seemed to want Palace to do well. In the end, the game wasn't important because we're safe, we conceded in the first 4 minutes, and the players weren't at their best (they have been for 5 games in a row so it's understandable...). I find threads like this having a go at other Palace supporters far more disheartening. Give your fellow supporters the benefit of the doubt. Or do you think bullying other supporters is going to improve the atmosphere?

Dont think bullying is the point - the thing that frustrates me is so called die hard fans who make alot of noise when we're winning against Chelsea but when it's City and we're 2-0 down (but safe anyway) they wanna complain.. At the start of the season, when no1 wanted to know the atmosphere at Selhurst was electric - and I'm talking about the times we were not winning anything at all. I remember taking an Arsenal fan to Selhurst with me for the Arsenal game. At this point, theoretically, we were down already but the atmosphere was incredible despite the 2-0 loss. If I took someone non Palace with me yesterday, they would've laughed at the amount I've boasted and preached our tremendous support this season. I've also said a number of times that I actually think the atmosphere was much better at Selhurst last season (home + away), but I guess that's expected when you go Prem. It's just concerning that next season we don't know what will happen, we could get over confident and be in a right relegation scrap or it could be mediocre all season (and could stay like that for a while until we progress) and the one thing that will keep Palace magic is the atmosphere and pride on match days. If that goes, will be very, very sad IMO.

One massive improvement would be to stop singing the "we're the boys from SE25". I don't mind the words, but the tune and tone create no volume at all. Its just a murmuring dirge. Compare that to the "We love you, we follow" chant, you get so much more from that one.

It was constant and loud. The days whole stadia chanted are no longer. Average fan age has seen to that, along with the prawn sandwich brigade. Was that your opinion formed from the radio or the ground. we were s***e today regarding atmosphere. best fans?? what a load of bollicks. This^^^ Our high opinion of ourselves is hard fought and well deserved. People may feel that the atmosphere on Saturday was bad but this is only compared to some of the recent matches where we had everything to play for. The atmosphere on Saturday was probably way better than most Premiership clubs get at home even when they win. I agree with you about those leaving 5 minutes early, now I know how Brighton feel with 15 minutes to go.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

But we have to be realistic, Palace had nothing to play for, so obviously the atmosphere is going to be more relaxed, ie quieter.

I did actually see someone wearing a Palace shirt on Saturday and had a mini panic thinking I had got the wrong day for the match.
