I also think as a general rule black and Asian people are not that keen on paying to watch football and would rather be playing.

I would say Liverpool and man utd have the largest Asian support more than any other team ive seen.
Now in liverpools case that's got nothing to do with community as there is no Asian community in Liverpool.
They come from all over the country to watch them.

There's a pretty big Chinese community in Liverpool.

And your point is?

My point is you said there is no Asian community in Liverpool. I used to live there and I'm letting you know there is.

I meant as in indian or pakistani community.
But I think you already knew what meant did't you?
Smart arse!

As a black fan, i would say that the way to generate more fans from other ethnic groups is to start by appealing to kids. When i was in primary school my headteacher (palace fan) would often have 2 games a season where it was encouraged for the whole school to go with a parent for cheap prices, which was a great day out.
There's also the fact that many parents in the area came over and supported the better teams of their generation when they we're teens/young adults, and this is passed onto their children, but it can be broken. My dad is a united "fan" and i broke away from the norm and supported palace, and have loved every moment of it. It will be a slow process but give it a generation or two and there will be changes i think.

------------------
Good post. Three main reasons you support a team i) your Dad or Mum does ii) you live nearby iii) failing that, a team you have most exposure to.
This is the same no matter your ethnic background. First generation immigrants parents unlikely to have too much affinity to local team so 2nd generation would be influenced by who they have most exposure to.

As you rightly point out this will naturally change as local pride has more influence.

I genuinely didn't! Chinese people are Asian. Wind your neck in mate. Wasn't having a dig. But at the risk of having a handbag in the face there are Indian and pakistani communities in Liverpool! Smaller than Birmingham and other British cities admittedly.

Oddly enough I've long been of the opinion that on balance our crowds are more diverse than a lot of other clubs, especially seeing as CPFC does not have the reputation of being glamorous or successful. Compare us to someone like Blackburn which has the biggest Asian community in the country based on % of population and is home to a club which has had sustained top level football, European qualification and of course a Premier League win, it's noticeable that there are virtually no Asian people at games.

I often wonder too how much of a perception there is among black and asian communities that football grounds are still unsafe or threatening places to go. You'd like to think that's not the case.

i'd naively think that with current football attending aged generations, the race issue at the ground wouldnt be such an issue, especially at somewhere like Palace - the chances of being racially abused in SP is very low i'd guess.

That said, why are there virtually no 'asian' fans at the likes of Bradford or Blackburn??

And, excuse my ignorance, but whats BME?

Officially it's 'black and minority ethnic' but unsure why this is.
