I saw an interview with mal where he said when he arrived he felt palace had gone a bit stale and needed to be brought into modern era. I make him right. The red and blue is only worn by us and aldershot if I remember rightly. West ham villa Burnley are all much more associated with claret and blue than we ever were. The glaziers is part if club history, but sounds more like one of those obscure names that hardly get referenced - like buiscitmen for reading, or even ahem cottagers for Fulham.

Mal was right without a doubt and there is still a need to take an objective look at the way the clubs image is marketed. Many clubs including Palace are described as family clubs or community clubs. If we want to draw in new support then there is a need to create a feeling within South London and points south that by coming to Selhurst you are joining a rather edgy party rather than doing something that you could do with your gran.

Plus Dagenham & Redbridge, and York City.
Is this a five minute argument, or the full half hour? [Link] |

It just happened, and we were on the slide at the time. Disagreed with it then and would change back in a shot.

I grew up with Claret + Blue since 1962 it was always our colours but hey ho,it changes, life changes. I dont remember any protests but it was so different back then...we didnt have internet, instant pics, instant communication, instant anything. Blimey I went out with a bird who lived at the bottom of Whitehorse lane, her old man had a colour telly, cos we couldn't afford one.Mind you we stayed in all the time, just to watch the telly and when her mum used to go out to the kitchen,I quickly got in to get a bit of stinky fingers...ahh happy days

As a kid my first season when I could go on my own, was 1973/4, so the Glaziers to Eagles bit didnt overly register as important (I was young). Loved the red and blue strips, plus we had Peter Taylor, Don Rogers, Alan Whittle and Derek Possee to entertain us. Remember a rainy 3pm kick off against Huddersfield with a man with a brolly teaching the Holmesdale how to sing Eagles to the tune of Hey Jude. Glad all over still used to be the main song played with hands slapping the perimter boards and their was an infestation of Pigeons in the Arthur, swooping down on to the pitch. Rumour was it reminded Big Mal of Eagles swooping - hence the nickname!
