As much as you may think he screwed us, he screwed himself 10 times worse- all whilst trying to make our club better, for us. Far too much disrespect shown to the man in my opinion.

Hocking the club on the QT to a hedge fund would probably start the ball rolling. Doing the whole media 'I've bought back Selhurst' when he'd done no such thing would be another minus. Dunno if the above warrant a description of being 'screwed' by the man, but then Del Trotter never really 'screwed' anyone. Just took 'em for a bit of a ride, I suppose.

SJ certainly didn't ever attempt to screw us over, he just lacked the competence and finances to really achieve what he was attempting. It's always difficult to tell with him quite where love for palace and wanting to improve football as a business stopped, and his narcissism began though. Ultimately, I liked him more than Noades (although he certainly lacked Ron's financial acumen, which was arguably his undoing), and he made a better fist of it than Goldberg. He did at least give it his all, but I wouldn't like to see him back in charge of the club again.

Never met him but I liked the bloke for putting palace back on the map. I liked the way he hated agents, didnt want to get fcukd over by them, sounds good in my book. That always smelt fishy, that they were all prepared to pay out......Brown envelopes anyone ???

I loved his stance on agents but it came back to haunt him in the end. If he hadn't pulled the plug on the Cahill deal we would have definitely stayed up.

It amazes me how people hate SJ, but yet Goldberg doesn't get a word in??? He f**ked us up even worse!! You all loved SJ when we got to the PL and you have to love him when things go bad. Will always be happy to buy SJ a pint or two and tell him thanks.

Goldberg fcuked up, yet everyone knew he had no idea what he was doing, he got bent over double by venables and taken to the cleaners. Jordan always gave the impression that he knew what was what, wouldn't take any sh1te and certainly wouldnt get rolled over like Goldberg. Who knows what actually happened there, I think he just got pulled apart by slightly smarter, bigger boys in the end. The sad thing is, watching him on TV now, is that he seems so so bitter, won't refer to Parrish and co by their names and as others have said, everything bad that happened throughout his tenure was someone elses fault.
Clinton is Clinton. I have known him for a long time, I know his mother... Simon Jordan |

Say what you like about Jordan, but he spunked about £50M of his own money on Palace. Someone suggested he "royally screwed us".... wrong ..... he tried to be a benefactor, but his incompetence and arrogance were his downfall. I would look in Noades direction if want a culprit that "royally screwed us".

Ron Noades seemed to know exactly what he was doing with Goldberg, and Goldberg let his optimism run ahead of his reality - a fatal flaw in any business man is to take over a business without the certainity of being able to afford to run it. Goldberg did far more damage that Jordon, and that damage ultimately would go on to damage Jordon's reign - seperating the ground and club was damaging. Ultimately without Jordon, we might very well have not made it out of Goldberg administration. No mistaking the man is a t*** of epic proportions but he was our t***, and he put his money where his mouth was, and when it came down to it, wrote a shed load of that off. Yeah he went to a hedge fund and got us into trouble, but how long could he feasibly have been expected to keep funding us out of his personal fortune. By the time he went to the hedgefund, his portfolio had been striken by the credit crunch and his worth massively reduced, his capacity to borrow limited. Its unfair to expect the man to bankrupt himself on our behalf.

What a great response to a touchy subject. On the whole I would swear Jordan did nothing underhand against Palace. His heart was in the right place regarding our club, but did he really understand what he was buying into? He objected to the way football was run and didn't reason why there were not the same rules as for other businesses. He knew, very well, how to run a business. But then people we all loved and respected at our club acted so out of keeping with business elsewhere. I have worked for people who own their own companies and found them 'over concerned' about the running of things. Either I shut up and kept my job, or said how I felt and hoped the company was better for it. One thing for certain, if I hadn't done my job properly I was for it. Strangely, those in football expect to be paid of no matter what. A bit like the bankers today. But Jordan, like Fergie, Warnock, Wenger and the rest, had to learn the rules and use them to his advantage. One thing for sure, by fighting the 'rules' he eventually had to get out. Even proving the case against Dowrie, a very hard thing to do, did not gain Jordan any kufdos in the game. Pity, Palace could do with someone like that on the board now.

I don’t think any, or many, of us expected SJ to bankrupt himself for Palace but he seems to have got there, or pretty close to it, all by himself. He paid too much for the club from the administrators when it didn’t own the ground, a better businessman would have held out until there was a deal that included the ground. He loaned Palace money that Palace would never be able to repay and spent Palace’s money far too freely. Each chapter of his book tells of the incompetence of the people around him but glosses over his own shortcomings. Ok, it’s an autobiography so this could be expected to a certain extent but it would have been nicer to have a more balanced view of his time in charge.
