The old Bolshevik point of it only takes one man armed with a machine gun on each street corner to take a country.

Manhatten (being the only example I can Google) has approx 17,000 street corners. What d'you reckon for England then? Gotta be aroud the 1 million street corners sort of area?

So, to take over a country, you would need a record breakingly ginormous, well armed and thinly spread army

The index to my Greater London A-Z has 140 pages and approx 650 roads per page. If you say each road has 1 corner, as many roads will share them but not all, it's just under 100,000.

Hate to be picky, but every road has 4 corners, wether internal or external, apart from Cul-de-sacs with a turning circle,so that makes appx,390,00.Did i just be bothered to type that?.Time 4 bed.

What makes us Palace is our patience. Every couple of seasons we put in a masterful performance and take one of the big guns (or our bitterest rivals)to the cleaners. Matches like that keep us going for a while.

The rest of the time, most other fans think Palace are a poor football team.
We know different but sometimes the buggers are right! It's so annoying.

The most dull thing I have read on this particular thread is that this thread is dull. Could be whoever wrote that didn't quite understand what's being discussed here. Hate to give advice, but for his ilk the place to be is with the oolighans at Millwall. They,re the same sort, not really getting it, being aggressive in what they think is a 'funny' way and attempting to look clever, which makes the point of this thread. No doubt he didn't realise his comments were proving the point he doesn't understand!

That's quite presumptuous of you there. Especially when you have no idea who I am, what I think or anything about me really. I read the opening post and thought it was dull. Looked at the poster name and realised its not the first time this poster has bored me rigid. Intriguing title but (for me) substance full of pretentious claptrap. Each to their own. If you like it, go for it. I fully accept I probably should have just kept quiet-the polite thing to just really say nothing and move on. Apologies to any little egos that have been hurt by my response, but 'not getting it'? Really? Please explain the high brow intellectual depth that I don't get. You are obviously on a much higher academic plane than I. I'd really love to hear this one. Maybe you could PM me to spare everyone else the distraction from this topic (and you the embarrassment of course!)

Nice to see you came back est1905.

What can I say, I did actually regret my rudeness yesterday. I apologise.
Wanted to see if there were any angry responses, and yours to be fair was pretty dignified. I'm not such a bad bloke, you'll just have to take my word for that!
From now on I will try to refrain from throwing my two penneth worth in unless its constructive.

I think the Hol is such a tiny subsection of the entire Palace fanbase that there is no way it can have a bearing on the culture of the club. There are so many very different people at Palace that it's hard to define us at all really.

There is one significant difference to many clubs, especially in the Premier League, and that's we're owned and managed by avid long term Palace fans. That gives us a stronger sense of identity and, for me, identity is what it's all about.
We've all got our stories about how we became Palace fans and many of us don't even live near Selhurst anymore. But that identity never goes away, it stays with you and satisfies that sense of belonging we all crave.
This year I've come back as a season ticket holder partly because we're in the Prem but also because of a deep down feeling this could be our time. A couple of years ago when we were really at the bottom, four Palace fans were determined to rescue the club and save it from going under. That's given us all new hope and determination to put SE25 properly on the map once and for all.
We'll never go quietly into that night!

The point of a site like this one is to discuss topics raised. To simply say 'how dull', discusses nothing and if a person were to just say that than that person must be answered soly on the post. Because I don't know the poster means I cannot suppose anything more. The chance of the poster to say what he wanted to say has been taken and if he's blown it with such an uninspiring post, than that's his fault and not those who chose to reply. The polite thing to have done is reply to the original thread with a good, balanced reasoning, not, as suggested. to politely be quiet and go away. That's not the point of this site either.

Nice post est1905.

The reason I started this is what Blanksight says. Some people post on here just for fun but I have noticed that many post because they want to influence other people. Lots of people say 'I don't normally post but I have to have my say on ....'.

But also not many people really want to break ranks.

So my theory is that in having our constant debates we do get a kind of consensus going. And that puts a few ripples in the pond and may have just a tiny effect on other Palace fans. And probably it would be no bad thing if we had a bit more influence because, in the round, there is a lot of sense on this site.

Maybe even the support on here gives some people the bravery to do something new. But I suppose it also makes it tough for new posters that haven't yet tuned into the consensus.
