Jules is a legend,. that word gets banded about a lot but he deserves the title.

However Henessey was not bought for £3 million to sit on the bench, and as much as I love Jules, in the cold light of day he is an average premiership keeper and Hennessey has the physical tools to be a top keeper, plus he is highly rated by wolves fans I have spoken to.

I can see Jules leaving in the summer.

You could have just ended there. Pretty sure Dom Fifield confirmed it was between 1.5m-2m.

I think it's very straightforward. At 34, Jules is towards the end of his goalkeeping career, and Hennessey, if he overcomes his injury problems, will be reaching his peek years as a goalkeeper, so at some stage depending on form and fitness, Jules will hand over his goalkeeping gloves to Hennessey.

IMO, being 34 is not particularly old for a goalkeeper.
Experience is precious for the bloke between the sticks.

Not if he lets in sloppy goals.

Have people been noticing that Jules has started to come for a lot more balls since Pulis arrived? He has dealt with them fairly well (I can't remember any real blunders) so obviously this has been worked on and was probably identified as an area of weakness.

Personally I don't see there being a contest, Speroni is no. 1, but now we have a solid 2nd keeper.

We need strikers!!!
Jules is in great form and can last 4 to 5 more years.
Our defense is top 11 and since Ian H. left is top 4.
Our offense?
Last position.
We are missing goals!
Spend it where is needed.
STRIKERS please!
We could be top 10 if we had good strikers.
So many opportunities wasted.

i love jules but at the start of the season i think he let some bad goals in then he seemed to get back to his best and what i have really noticed is that he has got so much better at comming out and claming the ball his timeing seems very good , but the 2nd goal last week i really think he should have done better i know it was hit hard and low and very close to him but there was nothing stopping sticking his foot out. i know that every keeper will make misteaks and i would keep him as number 1 for now however if more goals like this start going in then i think we will have to give henessey a chance

Personally I think Jules is a better keeper and that Hennessey has been bought in as a number 2 and cover. Why change a successful keeper when your fighting a relegation battle. However, we cannot expect Speroni to have another season without a break or injury, and if we lost him, I doubt either of our reserve keepers would be up to the job.

3m, if it was that much, isn't a huge amount by Premier League standards, whats more significant is his wages.

Also having a decent back up will prove useful in terms of contract negotiations, and in keeping Jules focused on form (not that he's really ever not been good for us).

Dropping Jules for Hennesey would be a risk.

I tend to agree. As regards getting in a striker I'd be very surprised that the club didn't look into this. However looking at the transfers completed a lot of the Championship targets didn't move, Rhodes, Le Fondre, Ings etc. Probably due to silly money. The Prem league was a very narrow market due to its current makeup. No team in the bottom would of given us anybody useful in that area, as that would of been suicide on their part. Players like Kenwynne Jones wouldn't of added much if any to the team. Players from the top could only be on loans due to money but what strikers were there up there ? This only leaves a punt at an overseas striker. Overall we have strengthened the midfield wisely and have Glenn to return, who clearly knows where the net is.

Now I have a theory, I could be completely wrong but how does this sound? Only two of the new guys have been signed to go straight into the team. Ledley for KG & Ince for Bolasie. Hennessey is cover for Speroni in case of injury or loss of form plus competition (has anyone else noticed how Jules has started to come for crosses in the last month? Gabbidon's contract is up at the end of the season and whilst he has done well recently are we likely to renew his contract? So Dann cover & long term replacement. Could be wrong but it makes sense.

Jules is 34, and will soon start to fade. You don't get many keepers like friedel who can keep going until they are 40.

WH is 27 so I will see him as a future replacement for Jules.

Funds rising £3m is a good investment for a keeper who will be starting next season or the season after.

It would seem as though Pulis agrees with you when it comes to Speroni's age but as already mentioned on this topic, experience between the sticks is worth a lot and Hennessey does not have it. His track record is not what I would call illustrious and his injury problems are worrying by the frequency. If he has to complete learning his trade with us I cannot see why we should spend as much as we did. I must say I'm some what confused by our recent dealings in the market which did not include our landing a striker for however much it takes as this expense could have been partially offset by what we spent on Hennessey. However,as I have been supporting The Palace for seventy years I guess I have become conditioned to our unplanned or lack of transparent forays into the market.

Haven't seen any announcements that Jules has been offered or about to sign a new contract apart from some half arsed effort on Sky.

Seeing as he's such an important figure and we are facing a relegation battle think this is piss poor.
