£3m for Wolves' third-choice goalkeeper? Hmm.....

They are popping open the champagne on the Wolves forums, they can't believe they are getting so much money for an injury-prone reserve.

To be fair some of them think he is potentially worth more, but that's they key isn't? 'Potential'.

I love Speroni (who doesn't) well maybe Pulis doesn't, but considering his deal runs out at the end of the season it looks like Wayne H is our keeper for the long term.

If this is sadly the end of Julian's CPFC career he must be played in every game until the end of the season.

Which is why a lot of any fee will be add-ons

hey I'm no expert, but I fall into the ' we need to strengthen the strike force first' majority ... Speroni is excellent, but may have damaged his shoulder in the Hull game .. but a bit more money spent on a great striker would appear to be the logical choice. Someone tell me why I'm wrong!

I love this signing because it shows that rather than panic buy players in positions we need to fill but where sufficient quality is not available at the moment, we are buying real quality in temporarily less urgent positions. That is how you build a successful club for the long-term.

Hennessey is a much better goalkeeper than Speroni. Furthermore, we got him at a VERY competitive price, if around 1 million is true. Speroni is loyal and beloved without question, but he is exposed at this level and has punched above his weight in recent weeks largely because the entire team is set up to protect his penalty area for him (two centre halves, two narrow full backs, two wingers who track back, and two deep, sitting midfielders. I really can't be bothered to argue the toss because his supporters will never be objective, but Pulis is absolutely right that Speroni's position needs upgrading if we are going to bed down in the Premiership.

Nearing the end of his career, it'd be great if Speroni got another contract and with his local ties retired a Palace player. But from next season if not this, he will not be the incumbent in the No. 1 shirt.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

If rumours are true where the hell did we get £3 million to buy a back up keeper?

Surely that money could have been better spent elsewhere?

Like the food in the Holmesdale...

Or improving the loos at Selhurst Park. If this is true, then once again I do not understand what is going on in the minds of Parish and Pulis et al. May be I am thick but I thought our dire need is up front!!!!.

You're right IMO too.

It's not £3mil, it's £1mil to begin with, rising to £3mil. It might not even be as much as £1mil to start. The same was said with Nigel Martyn. If Wayne Henn ends up being our keeper for 6 seasons, which isn't unheard of, keeping us in the Prem, or possibly even in and out of it, the deal is good value.

A lot of Wolves players are still on premier league contracts, so they need to ship them out. Sure he won't of been as expensive as some think.
Pulis wants who he wants and has no sentimental attachment to anyone, unlike the fans, so if Hennessey takes over that's the way it has to be.
