First day of the '79 season Blackburn away, 1-1 draw, no problems, got the train back to Euston. At tube station Newcastle had just been relegated and had played at Millwal, They were still hanging around London and ambushed us in the tube, it was a full scale riot they just wanted to kick the s***e out of cockneys, Palace, kids, old couples on a night out, anybody. Right in front of my eyes a woman in her 60's got knocked to the ground she was on all fours, then this bloke just gave her a bloody great kick in the face, she went out light a light, dads were trying to protect their kids, it was raining bottles, it was absolutely terrifying. By the grace of god me and my mate did not get a scratch and lived to tell the tale we just got through the grill before someone slammed it shut, those poor sods on the other side, god help 'em.
'79 was Man City btw 0-0 Edited by Kermit8 (07 Nov 2013 6.53pm)

Now that's what I never could understand(speaking as one who did used to get "involved", Why the hell people used to just start on anyone....Why in my day it was only against the ones who wanted to get involved. No trying to make it sound clever cos it wasn't.

Kermit8, your right my friend, it was a long time ago thinking about it, it was '77 Swindlehurst scored. But your dead right, it was bloody horrible, stupid and utterly pointless and football today is a zillion times safer and happier, And yes I hope that Geordie scumbag got got his face battered.

God there are so many. I don't recall what year it was, but Kevin Mabbut had been out injured for ages and was on the bench. Palace were at Charlton and had a massive firm. Clowns had just started their "B Mob" but half the lads in them were school mates of my brother who was only about 18. When Charlton scored loads of people in our end got up and started singing/dancing and Palace chased them all around the chicken run and that world famous s***e terrace they used to have. You could watch it like a conga of people fighting and moving along. 89/90 after the QPR away game drinking in the Stage Door at Victoria when loads of QPR/Chelsea steamed in and nobody (could) move so it went off big time. They were chased into Victoria station where another firm was going somewhere and all hell broke loose. Reading at home, I think 1991, for some reason Reading wanted to have a dig and did at the back of the Holmesdale. Leyton Orient in the League Cup away, early 80's felt like there were a million Palace and Orient ran for their lives. Leicester away, classic game, just before the Birmingham riot. Brum fans came to the game to ask if Palace were up for it the week later. No-one had any idea they would do what they did a week later. Leicester were game that day. The old bill locked Palace in for our own safety, except the gate was not actually locked that separated us from them. Some idiot was giving them loads of mouth and then they pushed at the gate and were in and at us. Watford a few years ago away. Palace "fans" attacked some kids outside the Wetherspoons. I've thought hooligans are w***ers ever since

Yep there are so many, my worse experience was getting beaten up by spurs fans at Liverpool street station, palace had been at Ipswich and when returning to Liverpool street these cnuts we're waiting, most of the palace did a runner, I got smashed in the eye, blood everywhere.

Bristol City were the first mob I can remember ever trying to take the Holmesdale in 1979. No one was expecting it as it was still half an hour to go before kick off. They had a go but the police near the middle of the terrace and a few of ours soon stopped their shenanigans. A year or so earlier I remember standing very close to a bunch of guys in the middle of the Holmesdale who were wearing surgical masks. Very odd. No fighting. Just standing there surrounded by Palace. It was only later that I learned that some of Millwall's top ranked thugs wore them.

Worst one I can remember was Maine Road. Being got at by gangs from all those little Coronation St types roads and missiles hitting me on the head during the game. The Valley 1979 - that was bad. Fights all during the game in their end and after. Missed a big beating by a whisker there. First time I realised that some fans were a bit rude was when I was eleven in the Whitehorse Lane end waving me scarf in the faces of some Southampton gentlemen who told me 'either the scarf gets put away or they'll do me' The Old Den. Cold Blow Lane. Fvck I must have thought I was immortal or something thinking about it now. Palace loud and proud. Another escape. Could you not walk all the way round the valley then.
