British Sea Power are kind of unique at the moment. Not sure who they claim to be influenced by but I can hear shades of Joy Division, The Smiths and Disintegration era Cure in there. Some of it is quite commercial, some is quite dark. Very good album, worth checking out if you like that sort of band

They are from Brighton but I can forgive them that.

ive never heard of any of those bands! so i can relate them to any of them.i wonder if there album is out here in aus? r they a new band? just the one album do they hav?

Well OK let's try it this way.. British Sea Power sound nothing like INXS, Men at Work or Jason Donovan. None of their music sounds at all like Kylie Minogue and they look nothing at all like Rolf Harris. Hope that helps

Not a record but the new Coldplay DVD is fantastic. It really is.

Shame on you for not knowing who Joy Division are. One of the greatest bands of all time! After the lead singer, Ian Curtis, topped himself in 1980, Joy Division became NEw Order, who I'm sure you're more likely to have heard of. But also, how can you have not heard of the Cure? Just no excuse for that.

My top album would have to be Blur's Think Tank, not commercial by any means and very diverse. Also Radiohead's album was good, but too much of a mixed bag. Really I feel it has been a weak year for albums I like, comming off the back of 2002 where The Streets, Idlewild, Feeder & Coldplay amongst others all released great albums, it is tough for me to pick any *outstanding* ones from 2003. Though Stereophonic's 'Getaway' off their new album in 2003 is one of the best songs I've EVER heard, just pure greatness.

Next year should hopefully be better though, mainly due to Idlewild having a new album, and apparantly the Streets as one fellow pointed out. But I really think I have to look into new music, I've not heard too much of the Coral, and if this British Sea Power comes anywhere near close to the influences Meerkat mentioned they should be good.

Best album was Welcome To The Monkey House by the Dandy Warhols, closely followed by Reality by Bowie...

It's probably just cos we're all old(er) now that we are so shocked that a whipper-snapper like yourself doesn't remember some of the true greats.

(PS I went home and listened to Disintegration by the Cure last night and it still kicks ar$e. One of the best albums of the eighties.)

Can only say I've heard one of them (dido) but it looks a decent list, barring the joke votes for blue/busted/kylie and the like.
Also I don't have any time for The Darkness but I'm the only person in the country who thinks that so I'll keep quiet

I hate the darkness too. I can't believe the hype.

It was my dream to play for Palace and to make my debut. I've always played for the club so if I'm playing here, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
