I am opposed, mainly because innocent people have been executed in the past and there is still the possibility of that happening again. At least an innocent person can be let out of prison.

Research done in the USA has shown that it is actually more costly to execute someone than to imprison them for life. This is because there have to be appeals allowed to make certain. Also because most prisoners do not want to die, they will use the slightest grounds to mount multiple appeals. It costs around 40K US dollars to house a prisoner for one year, and 2m US to carry out the average appeal. More than one appeal and it is cheaper to let them rot.

As Bacon said, the Death Penalty is what he'd want, so he shouldn't get off that easily.

Personally I think he should be nailed to a London street by his testacles and people can give him a kicking whenever they pass.

The guy is evil and should be treated as such. Sitting in a room for the rest of his life is far too lenient for what he has done.

mental torture I imagine is far worse. If he were nailed to a lamppost then maybe he would think that he has been punished... sure the bruises and cuts would eventually heal and he may then think he has been punished. Sitting in a room for 50 years knowing that his punishment would never end would be indescribable torture.

If the Iragis use this as punishment then its good enough for him.

And then when those 50 years are up and he gets let out to migrate to another country and live his life?

I don't agree with the death penalty, even for scum like Huntley. But because of the death threats he's going to have a private room, colour TV with Sky, Playstation, special food (in case someone tries to poisen him), 24 hour suicide watch etc etc. So what's the real cost going to be?

I think we should copy another idea from America - HARD LABOUR. Make the b****** actually work whilst he's inside, maybe building something useful

Trivial fact - Palace used to win 5-1 at least once a season, maybe next season?

I agree with Old Chap. I do not see why prisoner's should not do work.

Though I cannot see them allowing chain gangs American style. They'd all appeal to the European parliament and get compensation.
