4-3! Pardew, Bright, Barber and Thomas celebrate the winner. What's most impressive about this picture is some Palace fans at the front there still had the energy to lift their hands in celebration - i couldn't! I just shook my head and body like i was having a fit.... Attachment: liverpool semi 90 4-3 (12).jpg (207.02Kb)

WE'VE ONLY GONE AND BLOODY DONE IT!! The greatest moment in my Palace supporting life: George Courtney puts his whistle to his mouth and blows for full time. We are at Wembley at long, long last! The feeling and anticipation i felt in the seconds leading up to the final whistle, i've only ever felt before when i was a young child on Christmas Eve. Pemberton clenched fist as Martyn tries to join the party. At the far right of the picture just above a fans hand is cast iron proof of a living miracle: A man with a broken leg is seen sprinting across the pitch! Despite half his right leg in plaster, Ian Wright still manages to run faster than most to join in the celebrations. Attachment: liverpool semi 90 4-3 (15).jpg (296.39Kb)

The faces in this picture say it all. You'd think we would've been dancing and singing all the way home, but the truth was we all just sat on the train home in silence, totally drained and trying to take in the unbelievable drama that early afternoon. My cousin, an Arsenal fan, waited at Euston station to congratulate me on our return, and his first words when he saw our faces as we trundled off the train was: 'Cheer up lads - you won!' 14/4/90 Div 1 Palace 1 Arsenal 1 In the far distance Andy Gray celebrates his 80th minute equaliser against Arsenal. After the semi final heroics, I think it was in the back of a few of our minds that the euphoria and excitement of a Wembley date may impinge disasterously on our relegation survival hopes. This would just be 'typical Palace' after all. Thankfully the lads kept going and gained a valuable point here, leaving us 5th from bottom but 7 points clear of danger. The downside though was what looked a serious injury to Andy Thorn, stretchered off after just 15 mins with a suspected broken ankle. The initial reports was that he would definitely miss the final, but the x-ray revealed ligament damage and no break and Thorny declared: 'I'll be at Wembley. I would have played with crutches and two legs in plaster, let alone a ligament injury!'. He actually was able to return just 3 weeks later at Wimbledon with 2 league matches to spare. 21/4/90 Div 1 Palace 2 Charlton 0 Again, not the greatest picture but a significant game where this win rubber stamped our survival and finally doomed the Clowns mathematically to Div 2. There was a bit of piss taking on our part towards their support, but definitely nothing in the league they put us through in 2005. We could now enjoy the build up to the Cup Final thanks to goals from Thompson and Bright. Here Martyn kicks up field watched by a 15,276 Selhurst crowd. Attachment: charlton 2-0 90.jpg (170.05Kb)

2/5/90 Div 1 Wimbledon 0 Palace 1 If anything typified this brilliant Coppell side then this game did. Just 10 days to go before the biggest game in the clubs history and the players careers, nothing to play for and up against the 'hardmen of football'; Wimbledon thought we would turn up and just roll over. Not for a second! We more than matched them in every department, not one player shirking a challenge, and we even got involved in a mass brawl with a warning of a charge of bringing the game into disrepute from the FA. I will never forget the image of Dave Madden pushing 'Fash the bash' Fashanu back on his heels during the skirmish. Mark Bright's single goal settled the match. Apart from the obvious Cup success of that season, one other thing topped it all off: we managed to keep a 100% record against our 3 South London rivals - Millwall 4-3 & 1-0, Wimbledon 2-0 & 1-0 and Charlton 2-1 & 2-0. Martyn, Shaw and Salako in the shadow of Wimbledon's 'super' stand. I have to say i have very fond memories of Plough Lane and a ground i always loved going to.
