luton first game of the 05/06 season crystal palace 1 luton 2 Edited by irisheagle92 (11 Jun 2012 11.49pm) For some reason I remember that game: it was an awful performance! AJ's goal being the only highlight. What a rubbish first game. Set the tone nicely, I suppose... Mine was a 1-0 home win against Southend, circa 1994, Simon Rodger scoring in the final minutes.

If the replay against Manure at Villa in the Semi final of the FA cup in (must be) 1995 hadn't been on route past my house I might never have gone. Telling Dennis Irwin he was a spotty herbert and "learning" the simple chant Alan Smith's Red 'n' Blue Army was a particular highlight. We lost 2-0, but I still bought a Palace season ticket the next season.
So I manage a Workshop which provides a safe learning environment for blokes struggling with PTSD and other mental health issues. Being a Palace fan isn't listed yet. |

Cant remember the year but it was at home against Oxford United - Palace won 2-0 and Bruce Dyer and Lombardo were the scorers.

4/12/1971 Palace 5 Sheff Utd 1 John 'Yogi Bear' Hughes 2 goals. Rough old day ,could hardly see one end of the pitch from the other. Remember watching the game on Match of the Day and trying to work out what had happened. Assumed Palace won most home games by a 4 goal margin. Unfortunately seldom repeated over the last 40 years !

It was Boxing Day 1945,I was 11 years old and went to Selhurst with my Dad. The Second World War had ended a few months before but Palace was still playing in The Southern League which had been arranged as a war time measure to bundle teams together on a geographic basis to reduce travelling. We also still had the benefit of "Guest Players" ,another war time arrangement which permitted pro footballers to play for the team nearest to their base. At that time we had Jackie Stamps playing for us who later played for England and Derby County. It was a cold but bright day and Palace were home to Aldershot who we demolished 6 - 0. From then on ,67 years,I have been a Palace supporter as I got hooked line and sinker.Seems like yesterday morning but it really is a life time!.

It would have been in 1963, that was the year I first went to Selhurst Park to support Palace with my Dad, my Grandad and two of my Uncles. I haven't a clue who we were playing in my first game, I was in awe of the whole experience, the crowd, the ground, the players, the lady selling peanuts, the noise.... I reckon it was probably about the fifth or sixth game before I even thought about who the opposition were.
Stay out the way of the Southern thing. |

1970-71 Dad took me to a night game and I recall I was perched on a wall in the Whitehorse with my legs under a bar half way up the terrace, with away fans close by. Not for long after that tho, when I was finally allowed to go on my own at 13 there was a massive mob of Palace nutters who used to steam the away fans all the time.

My first game was Vs Swindon we lost 2-1 but I can't remember that game, the first one I can remember is vs Pompey. We drew 1-1 I think, we sat in the Arthur Wait and it was sleeting which was fun, set on being a Palace fan for ever since that game!

87 (I think) Palace vs Shrewsbury Town - we won and I think Eric Gates played for them - I remember my dad calling him a C*** throughout the match.

1985. Palace 0-1 Shrewsbury. I stood in the Whitehorse lane end and cheered when they scored, as I was oblivious to the fact we changed ends at half time.
Optimistic as ever |
