The Don.

The ball used to float from one side to the other and curl...before curling was the norm in English football!

Once a Glazier, now an Eagle, Palace Forever.

Peter Taylor for me, but honourable mentions to Ambrose, Salako, Hilaire.

Ambrose did hit the hardest free kick I've seen us hit though v Villa.

Cliff Holton

He was my one of my dad's favourites & he often talks about a penalty he scored v Bury in a 5-0 cup win that nearly took the keeper into the net.
Colin Taylor also had terrific power in his shot.

For the curling in type free kicks, both Peter Taylor & Alan Whittle were class.

Of the recent/current players it has to be Darren Ambrose.

I was at that Bury 5-0 cup game as well as your Dad. I think it was the 1964/65 season that we reached last 8 after later beating Southampton and Notts Forest
[ division higher than us ] before going out at home 3-0 on a miserable night [ rearranged from Saturday as terraces too icy ] to Leeds who were one of the best sides in the land.

Also, I seem to remember a skinny, blond 17 year old that captained Bury in the 5-0 match....Colin Bell.

Hope I'm right as memory not what it was lol.

It turns out I got my Dad's story wrong! Holton missed the penalty which hit the advertisising boards at the Whitehorse Lane end. The Bury keeper Chris Harker patted Holton on the back after this miss, although Holton went onto get a hat trick in a 5-1 (not 5-0) win. Incidentally, Chris Harker was in goal for Bury 3 years earlier & collided with Brian Clough who was playing for Sunderland, which resulted in Clough's career ending at age 28.

A good spot 20 Spaces Isnt Enoug about Colin Bell who Big Mal recommended Joe Mercer sign shortly afterwards for Man C.

A stockbroker urged me to buy a stock that would triple its value every year. I told him, at my age, I don't even buy green bananas!
