I remember they had a competiton in Match / Shoot or 90 Minutes magazine - think it was probably 90 minutes as that was the one i bought regularly. It was to find the Premier League's fastest player and he won it - did the 100 metres in a ridiculously quick time , wasn't much slower than international sprinters. He was class and as stated before did well for Spurs before becoming injury prone and his career went rapidly downhill. Don't think we got him for peanuts from Milwall though - thought we paid £1 million which was still quite a lot for us back then

"It's ok postman , he'll lick you to death" "That isn't really that comforting , I still end up dead !!"

Great player!

I took my eldest to his first game against Portsmouth (5-1) in which Chriss was outstanding.

Rememeber my litle lad sitting on my knee and throwing him on the floor when Chris scored!

Definately one of the top few strikers we have ever had.

A new era of total football is on the way to Selhurst Park!!

Brilliant striker for us. In his first season at Spurs him and Sheringham formed an excellent partnership and both bagged about 20 apeice. Sadly injuries then took their toll, had he stayed injury free he could have gone on to be a good England player.

Fancies another pint of Essex Blonde!!

Wasn't it also him who scored them two corkers at wolves in the fa cup? I remember one wedging in the top corner?!!!!

I got so wet that game - not from rain, but because I was watching on the telly in the student union (along with several Wolves fans) and every time we scored I jumped up, forgetting about the full pint I was holding each time!

That did make me chuckle I can picture it!

Had to make quite a hasty retreat at the end of the game - the Wolves fans weren't too happy. Tracked down some friends in another pub who were most amused by my dampness!

I bet they weren't.....you're lucky they didn't sling a few pints over you as well.

I could tell you what happened to him, but the last time I posted it the thread got deleted

Maybe no-one will notice if you tell us again!!

You can try and get it out of me, but I won't crack!

I have very fond memories of when he was at palace I was fairly young and just remember him being a goal machine. Quick as anything and a decent finisher, definitely one of the best strikers we've had in my time. Do you remember Paul Willaims who used to play alongside him? Thought he was very under rated

Paul Williams wasn't a bad player, took him ages to score his first goal at Selhurst but always found the net in away games. Finished his career at Canvey Island I think.

I remember him being booed at "come on you Sspuurs", a really top class player until Ssspurrs chewed him up and spat him out. The only thing he left with was his strongarm.
I always remember him scoring against Liverpooo 1st game of season, shame they ruined it by scoring 6

.......has our coach driver done a Poo'yet, without thinking about Gus!
