It was a home game ! Against Charlton their first season down in the Championship and we lost 1-0. I got to Norwood Junction and it slowly dawned on me that the whole station was full of Charlton. Lucky I was not wearing any colours, anyway got sat down in train and there had to be at least 50 Charlton top boys in the carriage I'm in. Sitting looking at old lady stareing back at me, she was clearly s***ting it because all you could here was Charltonnnnnnnnn and they were bonceing up and down everywhere and totally pissed ! Suddenly a Charlton youth lies over the table where were sitting and turns to me asking who I support ? I then thought if I say palace I'm done for, so mentin that it's Millall I follow. This was a good diversion as my train station was coming up and a group of his lads went towards the other half of top boys to shout that we have a Millwall boy here ! I timed this parting of the waves and jumped out at Penge West, turned around to the carriage doors as they were closing and shouted Eagles !!! I then felt the spray of beer cans as they tryed to pelt me ! Edited by Holmesdaleman (06 Feb 2011 2.39pm)
We R Palace ! We r Palace ! we r palace ! we r palace ! we r Palace ! We R Palace ! Repeat |

Blimey. I'm surprised I'm alive to tell any tales considering I went to most of the games already talked about. An honourable mention to Charlton away Jan(?) '79 promotion season when Palace had a massive mob of about 1,000 in the corner of the home end behind the goal and only a few coppers in between them and hoardes of Charlton fans. Lots of rushing about and flailing arms for 90 mins. My mate got a bit of kicking after cos he was too daft to cover his scarf up. The other 4-5,000 Palace fans were on the massive terrace along the touchline. Hard to believe Charlton's capacity in them days was 75,000 but that terrace could hold summat like 40,000.

quite a few dodgy moments at places like cardiff, bolton, millwall and burnley, but one that always sticks in my mind is rotherham away in the 70's,,,,,,,,,we had to walk inbetween two high walls coming out of the ground,,,,,,ideal for an ambush,,,,,,,,,loads of them leaning over the walls throwing anything they could find down at us,,,,,,,bricks, stones, bottles, sharpened coins, road work signs, gob and spit everywhere as well. euston train station was always a bit scarey back then as well after every northern away trip. There did use to be a handy set of lads from the Croydon Surrey Street market who could mix it though in the 70's.
