If you're talking brief and class. Dave Sexton. Absolute gem, obviously injured and well past his best but oozed consummate class. Apparently had a big influence on the latterday master, Johnny Byrne. Sexton scored 11 goals in 27 games before succumbing to injury. Now 80 years old.
lo Selhurst silva felix, lo Selhurst cara nutrix, viget, vigeat, vigebit! Best team:- Jackson; Gilbert, Evans, Cannon, Sansom; Hughes, Kember, McNichol; Byrne, Holton, Wright. |

Does anyone remember 'Fash' in a Palace shirt?! 2 games apparently. Being 25 I only remember his career vividly. He was always a difficult player to play against in a fairly good Dons team. I am old enough to remember Kenny Brown though - for 7 games he was fantastic! Proper old-fashioned player.

Steve Hunt. Hardly played for Palace but look at him now. It shows that it isn't always the end of the road when released as a youngster by a Club. If somebody had told me ten years ago he'd be an established International and Premiership player with bids of £5M being turned down I would have thought they were mental!!!

I seem to remember that Andy Johnson got rejected by Luton as a youngster, look at it that way and we did well to get £8M for him. I remember Anthony Danze, I think he was signed around the same time as Eero Peltonen, anyone remember him?

Ye Gods! Cedric Berthelin made the same number of appearances for Palace as Matt Jansen!

Ah Cedric Berthelin. Bad excuse for a goalkeeper if ever there was one!

Hardly worth another thread, so who's had the biggest impact in the fewest games for Palace? Nicola Ventola (3) would be impossible to beat, if his goal had indeed kept us up. I was so gutted when he got injured, was looking forward to seeing a whole season with him in the team.

With Berthelin though, he did have one good night...wasn't he in goal when we beat Liverpool at Anfield 2 - 0 in an FA Cup replay? Edited by Sir Joe (26 Aug 2010 4.14pm)
