The BBC can be funded by subscription. Many other services are, and they are successful.
The BBC has morphed over time from a once world-beating news outlet, and pioneering TV maker, into a massively over-resourced entity that its overpaid employees benefit very well from the current financing system.
Cheap sports, CGI kids programmes, reality TV, cooking shows all pander to the lowest common denominator. Let them pay for it through subscription, because I see no benefit to those that don't use it.
Jingoistic Falklands war coverage by Brian "I counted them all out, I counted them all back" Hanrahan ? Our Navy suffered massively with Exocet missiles provided by France, but the BBC never publicised just how close the UK to losing that war/conflict.

I disengage, I turn the page.

It’s not me that says it though is it?

It’s the report that says it. Despite the persistent claims to the contrary.

Those claiming later to have known must have those claims treated with caution. All that is relevant is whether anyone reported suspicions to management at the time, whether employees, parents or the abused. It appears that this didn’t happen in any way to cause any kind of investigation to be undertaken.

That this now seems both incredible and unacceptable is true and the strongest of reasons for the procedures to be improved.

You think Teddy’s head hurts? Imagine mine with the level of obdurate misunderstanding of the actual facts involved.

The persistent repetition of lies often results in people thinking them to be true. Certain tabloids do this all the time and I suspect it’s in play here.

And where is the evidence for any of this?
The contention is that the BBC is the envy of the world.
Here's another suggestion: the BBC is seen around the world as an organisation which enabled an unknown number of child molesters and abusers to carry on for decades but never mind because they show repeats of forty year old programmes.

It might surprise you to know air have no objection to the BBC stopping making any “entertainment”hows or putting them onto a separate subscription basis. It’s the news, current affairs, investigative reporting, science and education, particularly children’s, that concern me. So long as the “entertainment “ type can either be provided by the BBC or elsewhere free to the elderly.

I want them to do what they do best, free of government interference.

We certainly took some loses because of the Exocets ( I can clearly recall where I was and the shock I felt when the Sheffield was hit) but I don’t think we ever came close to losing the war. Once we got those boots on the ground it was always only a matter of time.

Yep, if they had sunk HMS Hermes or HMS Invincible it would have been impractical.

The evidence for the lack of action by management over Savile is in the links that you provided.

Evidence for my contention that the BBC is the envy of the world, sufficient to satisfy me if no one else, is found in my own experiences when travelling.

Finding evidence to satisfy you isn’t so easy as, so far as I know, no one does world surveys. There’s more available about attitudes in the USA than elsewhere. You may find these useful:-

You might also enjoy this which, though not directly related to the BBC’s international reach and trustworthiness, nevertheless expresses my own sentiments.

[Link]

I don’t read anything in any of them which suggests that trust in the BBC internationally has declined because it is seen in the way you assert. There is no evidence at all that it is seen that way.
