Yes, I meant defamation. Once again your misrepresentation is laughable. White supremacist? I'm not sure that evolution thrives on superiority. More chance adaptation giving small advantage in an existing environment. Not a good advert for religion or EU Federalism is it? White superiority? We Brits made good choices and had a s*** load of coal. Why did science suddenly take off in the Renaissance in Europe? Who knows.

I am not sure that it was the Catholic church that held back countries such as France or the fact that the latter was incredibly centralising at the time - and still has similar tendancies - but something between those two reasons explains why the IE happened in the UK rather than France 9there was an excellent documentary on the the TV only a week or so ago. However given that the islamic world was - a thousand years ago - the worlds scientific powerhouse and it seems almost anything you can name seems to have been invented in China (from paper to gunpowder and the compass to fermentation) it would seem there are many routes to innovation.

Not sure if you are agreeing or disagreeing there. As for the Islamic world. They did progress nicely until that was all stopped by their religion. I believe there was a total ban on books at one point. Except for at least one of course. I stand to be corrected.

Largely on the basis of the Italian Free states trade and relationship with the middle east, treasures taken by the returning crusaders, the invasion of the moors into (modern Italy) and Spain, along with the sack of Byzantium in the third crusade, supported by the Venetian fleet.

For wanting a fairer society? Sadly there's loads of people who like the thought of earning millions at the top of the tree when reality is they may never have to pay 40% tax. They don't understand that it is not just the earner who gets the advantages from astronomical salaries but their kids and probably nieces and nephews, and their kids and their kids.

Far too many don't understand that money only ever gets sucked upwards, they still believe it trickles down.
