Honestly would have preferred Ismael to Viera. I don't particularly know why, I just feel it doesn’t seem a good fit for us. Luckily, I'm often completely wrong.

It says in one article that Vieira was 'Sacked by Nice following a run of five straight defeats in all competitions'. Or 'September' as we like to call it at Palace. Edited by TheBigToePunt (29 Jun 2021 1.23pm)

Well, if a thousand pages of bollocks on this thread hasn't taught you that the internet is a totally reliable source of this kind of information then I don't know what will. There are few more sceptical of this drivel than me. But it's not just the internet, is it? The press are going full scale gung ho as well.

I'm always struck by what a sweaty face Vieira has. Like, really, really sweaty. I'd say only people who work very hard indeed have faces as sweaty as that. Or perverts, of course. Hopefully, he's just a hard worker. And if he wants to move on to the Arsenal job in time then that's fine, as he'll have to do well for us for a good while to get that job.

Can't say I'd be convinced by the move but he'll get my support obviously if he comes. I hadn't seen that before. There does seem to have been a lot of turmoil in Nice though which may have compromised Viera's position. He was certainly very highly rated when he arrived at Nice and results wise it was only his final season where it seems to have gone a bit pear shaped. I read a few articles when he was rumoured to be in the fray a few weeks ago and thought he might do ok (a quick google brings up lots of articles). The question is has he learned from his mistakes and has he stayed in touch with the PL, which has changed a lot in the last few years. Most managers have a period when they're starting out where things don't go well and the best learn from it. Hopefully if he does sign he'll be a better manager for his experiences, or failing that, Wenger as assistant?!

All we will be doing, if he's any good will be grooming him for the Arsenal job. When thats available he will jump ship straight away. For him to from Palace he would have to do a good job right? If he can deliver that over the next 2-3 years and then jumps to Arsenal then so what? We'd have more than our money's worth and be left in a great position to attract better players and a manager than to date.

there is no longer any betting on who will be Palace manager - Vierra won't be another de Boer, and though inexperienced the Nice job is not small beer and he did well for the majority of his time there so hopefully he's learnt the lessons and will be better for it. He'll make a better manager than Wayne Rooney ever will imho, is he less of a gamble than Lampard ... who knows? Be interesting to see what he does with his coaching staff.

Did he do well there as he inherited Favres team?

One minute I’m reading Steve Parish and the Americans have flown out to South of France to convince Farve, issues being the size of the transfer fund. Now I’m reading Patrick Vieira has agreed to become the Palace boss, I ll be reading next that Vieira was our first choice from the start. Should make a film of this saga Carry on Palace.
