A friend of mine went to Viera's wedding when he was at Arsenal. He was friends with his wife and also went to his house a couple of times. Despite his reputation on the pitch at the time, he said he was a great guy, very down to earth. At his wedding, the Arsenal players were all sat on separate tables so they were with the other guests. My friend has Dennis Bergkamp on his table and was trying to persuade him to sign for West Ham (who he supports) as he was nearer the end of his career. Evidently Bergkamp just laughed when he said West Ham. Not sure what he will be like as a manager as not followed his career much. It's a bit of a gamble, but it seems whoever we take on now is a gamble. I always favoured Dyche or Howe, as they have that experience, but having played here so long and being a relatively big name in football terms, I think it could be an exciting appointment.

Wow, this is a shock. Can't pretend I was happy to hear it but looking at his record on Wiki, it's not all that bad. He had three seasons at New York City and improved their position every year. Then at Nice he took over from Favre and actually got them to finish a place higher than Favre managed the previous season. However, seems as though things went to pot a bet after that and he was sacked. If it's done then lets just throw our support behind him and hope his name has enough weight to attract some decent players. Still won't believe it until the club announce it, however.

Honestly would have preferred Ismael to Viera. I don't particularly know why, I just feel it doesn’t seem a good fit for us. Luckily, I'm often completely wrong. Same and same. Here's hoping we're both completely wrong. I expect to see a lot of rumours emerging how we're 'after' every out of favour Arsenal player.

But Cucking, how can you say such a thing when the interweb machine thingy says he is definitely going to sign, at some stage soon, subject to blahdy blah and so on? Honestly, some people. Looking at the overall reaction, is it just me who can see that the whole thing just doesn't make any sense? It's got to be bs.

It says in one article that Vieira was 'Sacked by Nice following a run of five straight defeats in all competitions'. Or 'September' as we like to call it at Palace. Edited by TheBigToePunt (29 Jun 2021 1.23pm)

Well, if a thousand pages of bollocks on this thread hasn't taught you that the internet is a totally reliable source of this kind of information then I don't know what will.

All we will be doing, if he's any good will be grooming him for the Arsenal job. When thats available he will jump ship straight away. Agree. This will either be another FDB situation, or another Steve Bruce situation.

I did bet on Favre at 66/1 & Lampard at 15/1 but only put a fiver PV as was not confident in the information passed. I had put £50 on Favre & Lampard. But you only have one open bet, that would be the Viera bet,the others would still be open.

On a positive note my expectations for our new manager were low so Parish has probably met them.
