Who also benefited from hindsight! What people claimed to have seen during an enquiry doesn’t equal what they did, said or even thought at the time. He was excluded by the BBC years earlier for reasons totally unrelated to Savile, so that piece of journalism trying to construct a non existent linkage was worthy of the Sun. Is he the point? The BBC knew and no amount of dissembling and prevarication can alter the fact.

Thanks for being ever risible I express an opinion which is backed up by statistics from an unimpeachable source, albeit somewhat out of date. You offer nothing but innuendo. Yet you think it’s funny! You are a very very sad man.

The staff said they knew. Later to the enquiry! They didn’t though report it to management through “fear”. Ass covering springs to mind! So the BBC did not know. Some of their staff claim they knew, which is very different. What that required is what has happened. Which is to overhaul the reporting procedure to ensure no-one has any fear of reporting , or has any excuse not to. This idea that the BBC threw a corporate blanket over Savile because they were in awe of him might be a popularly believed myth, but myth it is. Many thought him creepy and weird but that his good works supplanted any negative vibes we felt. I don’t the BBC management were any different.

People who forgive or defend the Savile cover-up are as guilty as he was. It was well known in the BBC what he was doing. That nobody stood up and saved the abused children is beyond comprehension. It appears that lessons aren't, and haven't been, learnt as now Huw the Edwards incident is being downplayed by the BBC. I'm not necessarily picking on the BBC, but every corporation does it. The police service have countless cover-ups on their books, as do local councils, and social services. Even the NHS. These are all funded by the public, which is reason for the outrage.
Systematically dragged down by the lawmakers |

It is already of their main web page - shhhhhssssss - if we say nothing it will go away. Although, if after 5 years of Mr Edwards activities, they are now playing the 'mental health episode', you might expect their duty of care to now include less intrusive reporting.
I disengage, I turn the page. |

Untrue. Some I respect but disagree with. Others I ignore. Some though are distasteful and others ignorant and if so I will express that opinion. You have no need to read the replies if it upsets you. Who said your replies upset me? Most of them make me laugh, reading inconsequential bombast fabricated by pompous people often does. Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

The 2011 Ofcom survey relied upon by WE to support his opinion ( opinions can't be proven as at that point they become fact but let's not be pedantic on poor use of English ) asked less than 1000 people who claimed to have an interest in the news, so it was limited to a narrow questioning based on news coverage only. A poll in 2022 by a national newspaper asked nearly 7000 of it's readers if the BBC was fit for purpose or should it be defunded. Over 95% thought the BBC was not fit for purpose and wanted it defunded from the the public purse. Edited by HKOwen (15 Jul 2023 7.54am)

Again, try reading what your link actually says and not what you want it to say. Wipe your mind free of preconceptions and try to be objective. No-one suggests this situation was healthy but that’s not the same thing.

Edited by georgenorman (15 Jul 2023 6.20am) Standard assumptions not based on any evidence at all. I didn’t say you were upset. I said “if” you were you can always ignore. I ignore a great deal of things here that I regard as complete garbage and not worth bothering with. There are recent posts in this thread which are in that category. Try it!
