Still... these are selling well in the January sales... So an organisation no one cares about delivers a prediction based on nothing, and even after the most ridiculous, 'expert' defying political year of our lifetimes, we're still meant to give a sh*t?

The point that european companies (some state run) make loads of money from our privatised rail franchise system is true though is it not?

It seemed interesting and relevant enough for the Guardian to run a story and the BBC news team to comment though.

I wouldn't mind so much if a) it was economically viable for people to use the train services b) reliable and fit for purpose. Privatisation of the rail service has failed, and the state and consumer, have both lost out, whilst corporate interests have effectively managed to obtain substantial state subsidies without delivering an improved service or even a cheaper service. Should have a) never been nationalised b) renationalised at no compensation years ago.

I seem to remember exactly the same complaints being made about it when it was nationalised.

It would have to be a spick and span modern service we don't want to go back to dirty unreliable strike-ridden British rail. But it could be a far better model with profits going to the treasury and being used to maintain and improve the network and hopefully control prices. I believe the east coast franchise has run successfully like this but it was returned to private as the tories couldn't stand it. Spectacular failing of privatisation this its a corporate racket just profiteering you wonder how they get away with it they even get state money on top.

People keep voting them in to their own detriment.
