There is zero proof of a significant invasion threat to Nato terrority.....To what aim exactly? What do Russia get out of that?

That would mean both war against highly equipped multiple professional armies and the threat of everyone getting nuked.

As for that guy, what he thinks is an equivalent to those that wanted us to invade Iraq and were prepared to say anything to enable it.

Russian-appointed official in occupied Kherson killed in blast

Quote A senior official in the Russian-installed administration of Ukraine’s occupied Kherson region has been killed in an apparent assassination, the latest in a string of attacks against Russian-backed authorities.

Dmitry Savluchenko, head of the families, youth, and sports department of the Kherson military-civilian administration, was killed in a bomb blast on Friday.

The deputy leader of the Kherson region, Kirill Stremousov, confirmed the identity of the deceased to the RIA Novosti news agency.

The press service of the city’s civilian and military administration told Russia’s TASS news agency it was a “targeted assassination”, adding that the official was the only person killed in the blast.

TASS said the explosion had burned two cars and shattered the windows of a nearby four-storey house.

Kherson, which sits just northwest of the Russian-annexed Crimean Peninsula and was occupied during the first week of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, has seen regular civilian protests that were put down by Moscow’s troops.

Ukrainian media have reported increasing partisan activity against the Russian-backed authorities.

On Wednesday, a pro-Russian official in the village of Chornobaivka survived the explosion of a bomb planted in his car.

Ukraine’s military said on Monday that two Russian soldiers had been killed and another wounded when a gunman opened fire at a waterside café in the city of Kherson.

In late May, the mayor of Enerhodar in the southern Zaporizhzhia region, who was appointed after Russian troops took control of the city, was wounded in an explosion that Moscow blamed on Ukrainian nationalists.

The southern Ukrainian city of Kherson, which had 300,000 inhabitants before the war, has virtually been cut off from the outside world since it fell into Russian hands.

Russian armed forces have reconfigured television towers in the region to broadcast Russian television channels. Moscow also introduced the rouble and began distributing Russian passports.

Ukraine’s counteroffensive in Kherson has stalled amid fierce battles raging in the Donbas.

Just imagine the scale at which this would've been happening in Kyiv had Russia captured it.

I tend to think that Putin is more set on continuing to push divisions within NATO countries, and favouring the likes Le Pen, Orban etc who will be 'friendly' enough to Russia for them to eventually use it to significant advantage. This is hardly a secret on Russian state TV and is basically the blueprint of the Foundations of Geopolitics [Link] They certainly have their eye on expacnding territory but it's the long game. Even some of the right acknowledge that Putin's attempt to stoke divisons and criticse Western cultures are just the latest mask designed to get some onside rather than a genuine interest in peace or some kind of 'brotherly' solidarity. We can see that it works, so it's understandable that he takes that tack.

Putin is only interested in Russia....he has stated as much.

It doesn't matter whether what he thinks about western culture is honest or not. What social conservaties think matters little as they aren't the ones holding power.

To me all that matters is what is true and what isn't true as much as that can be determined....what policy produces and what it doesn't.

The real world is Utilitarian and realpolitik.....the latter is unfortunate, while the former is no longer the dominate focus of the west.

He appears to be rather interested in Ukraine too! Being interested in Russia alone and Russian interests can be two different things. The latter is more what I was referencing. But yes, I appreciate that people have different views on such matters.

At the WEF, two weeks ago, he was saying that Zelensky had to negotiate.

Powerful nations tend to be interested in the attitudes of bordering countries.....hardly a Russian exclusive.

The Ukraine has been a football between these two power structures....and the coop in 2014 kicked it off.

Realpolitik....and the common people of the Ukraine are pawns.

Literally every word of that conflicts with what Putin has said recently. He does not consider Ukraine to be a sovereign nation. You can daydream about how many pushups you think he can do as much as you like but he has stopped being subtle about what he wants. On Russian state tv, they are openly discussing how many troops they will need to take back the FORMER soviet block so I think we are well past the point where we can debate this. He has bought a gun, walked into the bank, demanded money and started shooting at everyone, you are still debating whether or not he has bought the gun for self defence

They have been very clear that any Ukranian who objects to their aggression is a 'nazi' who essentially needs to be wiped out, that Ukranian identity is illegitimate.. and mentions of Ukraine are being removed from their textbooks. All you see from the non reactions at this, is what behaviours people are happy with as long as it's not in directions that impact them.

There are certainly reasons to believe it wouldn't be the first time...
