The people of Southport deserve recognition for their kindness and fortitude. It's heartwarming to see this and is just how I expect people everywhere in our country to react. Despite the attitudes on display in these pages we are not all supporters of out-of-control jumped-up football hooligans intent on confrontation and causing mayhem. This could help the healing. What happened last night cannot. Who's fault is that ? The police for allowing a two tier policing system. We all watched them stand back and do nothing while they burned down their own street in Leeds, then Rochdale. How many march through London supporting hamas, a recognised terrorist organisation by the UK. Why's the full force of the law not applied to them ?

The police have to be careful they don’t get pressured into treating this as mental incapacity unless of course there is clear unambiguous external evidence, like he had just escaped from a mental institution and gone on a rampage. Mental capacity is obviously very complicated and is also regrettably used and abused by defence solicitors trying to get the best outcome for their client. The issue should therefore in 99% of cases be left for the courts to decide. Edited by XKudu (31 Jul 2024 1.40pm)

No one has beef towards good people living their lives. There would have been many decent people of whatever ethnicity who would have rushed that maniac given the chance. We all know that. However the white working class know they have been abandoned by their own politicians and institutions. They know they have been demeaned and blamed by these people....mostly middle class careerists who have never faced the issues of the people they look down on. This attack wasn't an accident, it was the inevitable consequence of choices they enabled and went along with. As we know other attacks will.

There's a brilliant bit from Bill Hick's years ago, about the American 'system' (as I posted about previously), and this will be a terrible representation of that, but he essentially described life in America as a 'ride', and that within this analogy, he noted that some people occasionally 'wake up' from the ride and begin to question it. He then follows that up by saying 'and we kill those people', 'shut him up', 'I have a lot invested in this ride' etc. Was typically bang on the money Bill. You only have to look at those on this thread who so desperately try to convince themselves that everything is OK when children are murdered in a random attack, that the system is working and this is just an unfortunate anomaly, and those that need vilifying are the ones daring to challenge the 'system' about this. Just look at the news, see where 90% of the coverage is focussed today, and that will demonstrate the source of what they believe to be their own thinking. Mindlessness and cowardice, probably in that order. There you go, more pertinent now then ever - [Link] Edited by Nicholas91 (31 Jul 2024 2.21pm)

It's an obvious assumption but until we know more, it is unsafe to reach conclusions. There must be a good reason why the police are still interviewing him. Which won't be because of all the wild conspiracy theories now being trotted out as they are established facts. Gives them more time for them to cover up the reasons. For the sake of diversity.
