Good shout eagleman - Super Cooper etc., but still not sure about this bloke. His CV doesn't look super as far as I'm concerned. Meantime I back Roy to keep us up and prefer to save this discussion until end of season. I agree POG, wrong time to change managers, only, if we were in the bottom 3, then yes, as we are 8 points clear(atm), no need.

What I remember about that period was an interview Warnock gave on TV a few games before. We were at home, live on sky and got a result (perhaps a hard earned draw?). Warnock told the interviewer how pleased he was with the teams effort and attitude, before saying something that stuck in my mind afterwards. He said 'If these players are not having me (as has apparently been suggested) then that performance is a funny way of showing it'. I remember thinking that I hadn't heard a single rumour of discontent, and neither had anyone else I knew. Nothing. Not a dickie bird. As you say, it subsequently appeared the club found Warnock inadequate for the top flight, but none of it took place in public or through the press. Compare that to the bulls*** a Manchester United manager has to handle. Sniping from players on social media, off the record briefings to the press by insiders, and disruptive agents sowing bad seeds here and there. I'm sure there aren't many who would turn down united to manage Palace, but the next man will not have a fraction of the bulls*** to swim through as you get at other clubs. I can remember Warnock's comment now you mention it - I think it was after we'd beaten Liverpool 3-1 at home. In fairness to both him and the club there was always the feeling that he was a little bit of a stop gap after the Pulis / Malky MacKay fiasco which wasn't Parish's fault either IMO.

I thought Paddy was being lined up? So someone on here says anyway. Looks like he's dropped down the list of potential incumbents.

I think it’s a perfect time to change. He has a window in January we should be safe anyways this season he would have to some drastic changes to get us relegated with the team we have. Then he has full summer window as well. I thinks it’s perfect timing. Hope Roy ends on a win against the seagulls. Then thanks very much Roy.

I think Forest's home crowd carried them a bit last season and their away record suggests Cooper isn't great at managing a team to win a game of football when they're up against it which is a red flag IMO. That said I don't think we should delude ourselves about the level of coach we should be looking at. Some of our managerial recruitment attempts and departures have looked pretty ham fisted and the ownership structure still looks very messy. I'd think that SP will like Cooper's knowledge of youth football.

Totally agree. People calling for Paddy to take over… are you insane Cooper is a solid manager - but championship level. Fonseca and Potter are more realistic, although maybe not necessarily what we need. Roy will be here until the end of the season when we finish 12th (again) and then all bets are off. The same people calling for his head will do well to remember the continuity and relative good times when we appoint a manager at risk and flirt with the drop. FYI not saying Roy shouldn’t bow out at the end of this season, just saying that we’ve been kicking the can down the road for a while now and whoever we appoint is a big leap into the unknown - could go either way, vs what we’ve had for the last five years which is relative certainty. A very rare quality in the PL. Edited by SW19 CPFC (22 Dec 2023 12.34am)

As Glen Murray said last night Palace have twice gone for a manager with a more attacking approach and it hasn’t worked but it’s clearly where they want to be. Last season it looked like Roy was able to change his style of football with the right personnel but he has reverted to his lifelong style of well drilled defensive foot regardless of the opposition. The modern game seems to involve a more flexible style within a given system ( high block v low block, possession v counterattack) and detailed analysis of the opposition and tactics based on how to counter them. In that regard I was impressed with Gary O’Neil when he was on Sky as a pundit one evening and he’s done well at Wolves. I doubt we’d get him but he’d be better than Cooper.

A new manager could already get the squad to adopt a new playing style. And maybe even spend some on a fresh pair of legs if our shoestring budget permits.
Yeah, bitch, I said what I said //I 'd rather be famous instead // I let all that get to my head // I don't care, I paint the town BLUE and RED |
