Not if it reaches court and charges of criminal behaviour have been alleged. He would get a fair trial. In the court of public opinion, based on the irrefutable evidence of the appalling attitudes and behaviour being brought to a wider audience because of the Horizon programme, there is no presumption of innocence. It cannot be denied. How it is regarded is an individual matter but I am unsurprised at the general reaction. Aren't you too?
I expect the pitchfork and torches brigade to be out in force when ever the opportunity to feel morally superior is available. The only thing that should matter is whether a criminal offence has been committed. Sadly, we live in a society where speaking out against the powerful gets you cancelled or dead. Brand's lifestyle and attitudes hands them the perfect opportunity to silence him. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (24 Sep 2023 1.59pm)

What surprises me is that those responsible for a four year enquiry which apparently unearthed evidence of serious crimes didn't think to inform the police of their findings.

That Brand’s pontification appeals to those who hold those type of opinions is also unsurprising. Being unable to call out something so obviously wrong whilst seeing dubious motivations in those who can, is unfortunately only too familiar. Brand’s lifestyle and attitudes are something most people find objectionable. If they didn’t impact anyone else then they wouldn’t be the business of anyone else, but they do. So making us aware, allowing us to form opinions and decide reactions is useful. That your opinion is different to most people is par for the course you play on.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Do we know they didn’t inform the police? It is down to individuals to make complaints and perhaps those complaining were/are reluctant to do so, either because of mistrust, embarrassment or fear. This may give them the confidence to do so. I heard the primary journalists involved, from Horizon and the Times, interviewed on the very detailed process that was undertaken to assess how this would be handled. It wasn’t a simple or quick decision. They were well aware of the need to respect a presumption of innocence whilst ensuring that what was fact was presented but also that which was just allegation was stated as such.

We know the police didn't start any kind of investigation until after the programme aired which is a bit lax if they were told months or even years ago.

They haven’t, so far as I am aware, started an investigation into any of the allegations made. They cannot until they have a complaint to investigate. They have started to investigate a new one which the programme encouraged someone to make and have invited anyone with knowledge to come forward. No one can decide culpability but they can form opinions. Especially on what they see and hear during a documentary. Things that might not be criminal but show unacceptable behaviour towards others. I have. I thought him to be a self opinionated prat before this but now I also think he has a very dubious history of disrespecting others which ought to be highlighted, discussed and rejected as a poor example to others. Making sure that today’s celebrities know that their past could catch with them is more important than prosecuting Brand for anything. Andrew Tate has not been mentioned in this affair yet but I sense his shadow in the background.

This is a fantasy world in which conspiracy theories are real and reality isn’t. Indeed many of the regular contributors revel in being outside the mainstream and dismiss it completely.
