An astute observation. Cause and effect: is it because they are told to play this way or is it because their legs can't take them up and down for 90 minutes? The less they do, the less they get used to doing, the less fit they become. Conclusion: the tactic begets the lack of fitness.

Precisely. The sanctimony exhibited by numerous posters on this topic is staggering. If 'value for money' is suddenly in vogue, then perhaps the club should start slashing some of the ridiculous amounts doled out to some of our hapless players.

Yep, fully agree, the only person to blame for that is Parish/Freedman, they have a history of extending contracts on sick notes, the lame/Lazy and the just plain useless. Its far easier to do that than payout for new players and the Parish obsession with loan deals are only short term sticking plaster solutions and far often these do not work out for us as the player is either not fit enough, good enough or prone to injury (CG, excepted).

Positives already from the short training video.

I know these are not great to use but when you look at the ones with PV and first one with Roy back straight away can see difference plus it shows the players fitness really is a problem with many of them needing rests and you could see Wilf was breathing very heavy. (fitness issues cant be solved before next game and at this late stage of season but an improvement can happen)

Wilf showed what an a** he is as well the rest of players shake and hug the two R but Wilf didn't even look like he wanted to shake hands and didn't look happy.

From the training video I saw, we might as well stick Roy in midfield after that through ball he played in to Mateta

Pretty bad timing as Osian only halfway through his notepad.
Be interesting to see Roy's first team selection as sure the flair players and too tap football from the back may take a back seat to Roy's park the bus philopsy and a tough tackling midfield

Potentially, and whilst I wouldn't be surprised to see Luka, Jeff and Ayew in that team. He'll have to play the 2 CBs and Doucoure which is a massive step up from what he had before

I wasn't happy to see Vieira replaced with Roy, but I can't imagine Roy has returned for any other reason than he loves being a football manager. End of. Frankly I don't care how old he is if it doesn't effect his ability to manage the team, my worry at the end of his tenure was he looked tired and a bit lost. For 10 games that probably isn't too much of a worry.

Danny Murphy (who I like and whose views I respect) has always spoken highly of Roy and believes he might get the best out of Eze again. Olise might also do well out of some old school instruction, as he has been prone to drifting in and out of games of late. Wilf seems to play his own game these days. Still by far our most threatening forward, so despite his flaws we need him fit for all of our final 10 games. Whether Roy can/will accommodate all three remains to be seen.

We are unlikely to see anything new or surprising, but maybe just having a steady hand at the helm and clear and simple instructions might be enough. The teams below us are there for a reason. We haven't won all year and yet still haven't dropped below 12th. We do have some very good players and probably the best centre-back pairing of any team in the bottom half. Lokonga looks very good, Doucoure is great if we can stop him from lunging in all the time and if Wilf, Olise and Eze can find their best form we'll be a match for anyone.

Danny Murphy captained Fulham when Mr Hodgson was manager at the club.

I might be wrong, but isn't he also a Palace fan?

Edit: scratch that, he supports Liverpool. I must have been imagining things!

I think rumours of deficiencies in the fitness department are over-stated. All movement requires effort, and I've seen no shortfall in the player's ability to arrive in style every week.

Let me guess how far away from the goal Mateta then lumped it...
