More or less correct. You lot might think otherwise, but unless the march towards AI and automation magically stops, Globalisation is inevitable. Defo not a fan of anti-vaxxers though. Like debating with religious extremists Who are you lot? Globalisation is perhaps inevitable in terms of commerce, but national borders and democracy need not be affected. This is all about decision making. It is not some great unstoppable force. We must not allow unelected bodies to decrease our freedoms, security and choices.

You can attempt to undermine anti globalist attitudes by throwing around the usual tropes, but it doesn't change simple truths. Multi nationals will always try to absorb, dismantle or destroy any competition. Their ultimate aim is to make the world one homogenous mass of consumers where they are the single provider. That is capitalism. Globalism does not serve the individual, the nation state or the future of the planet. It has no interest in democracy, personal freedoms or security.
I didn’t undermine anything. I described the views as controversial, which is undoubtedly true. That you, and your cohort, agree with such views is depressingly predictable. The Great Reset has been routinely misrepresented in these pages as something sinister, which it never was. It was simply and only a call out to decision makers to view the demands that the pandemic placed upon the world as an opportunity. To try to find positive solutions to long standing structural problems. We need big corporations and governments to work together. They need each other too. Having organisations like the WEF where the decision makers can meet, understand each other’s problems and try to ways forward is 100% positive. Only conspiracy theorists believe otherwise. The ultimate power will always lie with the governments who control the regulators. Globalisation in today’s interdependent, interconnected world is not only inevitable, it’s essential. Ensuring that the benefits get distributed throughout society is the job of government and our job is ensure we elect the people who will make that happen and not line their own pockets.

I read that someone is amused to see Steve Bannon described as “far right”. His Wiki page uses exactly those words to describe him several times along with him believing in supporting populist politicians in many countries. The latter alone ought to be enough to set off the alarms. Of course those who hold far right views never consider themselves to be so. They believe they are actually the mainstream silent majority. Funny how it never works out that way at election time.

They are getting less quiet, and I suspect that current events will highlight just how idiotic immigration policy and talk of a global village really is.

What’s essential is that we don’t rely on untrustworthy sources, as we have done with Russia. That lesson has been learned. Countries with common standards can bond together and make mutually beneficial agreements. Which is one of the reasons why leaving the EU was so stupid. It’s much harder to make such deals alone.

Russia is mostly European, Ukraine is European. Collectively they are massive resource hubs for both wheat and gas. You know...actual physical stuff you actually survive on. Only an clown would suggest that Europe divide itself away from its own resources to rely on far more expensive alternatives while a competing non European sector benefit from it. That's what comes from having low quality foreign idiots in charge. Edited by Stirlingsays (18 Oct 2023 9.49pm)

I doubt whether current events will make the slightest difference. I have no idea what part of our “immigration policy” you think could or should be changed. Do you not want “shortage jobs”:vacancies filled by overseas recruitment? Just imagine the state of the NHS if we did that. Do you not want spouses and children to be allowed to join their UK citizen partner or parent? No one wants the illegals arriving by plane or small boat but finding ways to stop this is not easy. If it were, it would have been done.

Whilst part of Russia is certainly in Europe, none of Russia is of Europe. Russia does not share our values and it cannot be trusted. That would be true wherever in the world it was physically. There are other countries, much further away, like Australia and New Zealand who can be trusted. Ukraine is in Europe and wants to be of Europe.

Utter nonsense....Doesn't seem to understand the geographics that place most of Russia in Europe. Totally ignroes the fact that Ukrainians and European Russians are slavs and no more less European than each other. Totally ignores the stupidity of an avoidable cold war with your own economic hub. Talks of 'Values' yet doesn't have any. Edited by Stirlingsays (18 Oct 2023 10.12pm)

Remember how Blair use to tell Labour conferences how Labour was a 'left of centre' party. And all those clowns would stand up and applaud him. Just another form of aristocracy wanting its serfs back. If you are wondering about the cows....Cherie is the third one on the left....just left of centre. [Tweet Link]

The apologist for Russia on these pages is posting ever more nonsensical ideas. Just because most Russians and Uranians share an ethnicity means nothing if their aspirations and politics aren’t aligned. Even less so with us. We couldn’t trust the Russians under Putin if they were situated in Calais. The idea that there is a bond between “white” people in Europe which transcends politics, attitudes and behaviour is what I think lies behind this. I believe this is not just nonsense, it’s highly objectionable dangerous nonsense. The logic of thinking this way would have seen us refusing to fight the Nazis. For me being British has nothing to do with ethnicity. If you have the passport, accept the standards, abide by the law, treasure the heritage and respect your fellow citizens then your can be as British as me, whatever ethnicity you happen to have.
