However bad the government has been on COVID Labour's response has been worse. After the usual the government should resign, Boris / health secretary is useless etc. the labour spokesperson normally declines to explain what Labour would do instead. On the rare occasions when journalists can pin them down they normally admit they would do the same as the government only better. If Labour had been in power it is likely they they would have been even more draconian and followed Australia and new Zealand. Opposition is not just criticising the government of the day we can all do that but at some point you have to present alternate policies. Edited by Badger11 (27 Jan 2022 8.29am) I am not defending Labour. I think they are a party on their way to extinction. It's simply that no-one is noticing what their policies are at present. When so much of the Tory mess is in the limelight who looks elsewhere?

Calls Starmer a centrist yet can't identify policies that differ from Corbyn. Rather exposures your argument. The question was about advocation, not about existence. You cannot advocate anything unless someone is listening. Right now they aren't. Sometimes it's better to keep quiet and let your opponent dig their hole deeper, than do any digging yourself.

There are over 470,000 civil servants, so you are saying that at least 235,000 went to a public school. Do you have any data for that? If it's a opinion then fine but you are stating it as a fact. Possibly you don't understand what a civil servant is.
Edited by HKOwen (27 Jan 2022 12.20am) His stats are confused. 58% of the top 149 posts are public school.

Policies Starmer. You don't have any. Labour will find themselves blocked by the media, establishment etc. as they were in 2019. They will find themselves being shunted off into studios where they are anti-semites, commies, benefit clamants etc. and of course the tory press to a man. Come on Starmer. What is your mission, project it to the people. A mission statement, sent to every household, updated between now and a GE. He is just so establishment.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Bring back Corbyn I say, a leader to marvel at. In 2017 Labour had not yet announced they would conspire with other parties to disenfranchise millions who voted for Brexit by

In 2017 Corbyn was a fresh face for those who know little of party politics. Corbyn had decades of experience in talking to large crowds and the public. Meanwhile Theresa May was making a dogs breakfast of Brexit and not winning any friends with the public she was a wet fish. So yes Labour did come close due to the Corbyn Factor. By the time of the next GE Corbyn's limitations as a leader as opposed to protestor were evident for all to see. Labour was in complete confusion over their Brexit policy and worse Corbyn had his moment and flunked it. There was a moment when a nation unity government of opposition MPs and rebel Tories was possible however Corbyn showed his inflexibility causing the other parties to withdraw. He would not serve under a unity PM so all the stuff about the man of integrity sounded hollow when the wouldn't put the country's interests ahead of his own. Meanwhile Boris had seized the moment and sacked all the key Remainers and had a simple message Ge Brexit done.

No, you called Starmer a centrist. Yet you have nothing to back that up. He is. This is about what he is advocating. Which at the moment is very little. When the time comes I have little doubt he will provide all the back-up necessary. Not that it will satisfy those who think they know better.
