I agree it has declined, but Bitesize is still an excellent resource, and from my understanding since their funding has been continuously cut, regional news and adult education have been two of the most heavily affected areas. But these things never make the front pages. Instead, we are all told to focus on a bleeding orchestral performance and whether it will have any f*cking vocals. Going back to my comment about Education and money they only have themselves to blame. If the BBC had a 24 hour dedicated channel covering children to adults this could be their flagship. Even someone as anti BBC as me would acknowledged that other channels don't do that. This all started going wrong for the beeb when they stared chasing ratings. Back in the seventies a program like Panorama was a 1 hour heavyweight investigation that uncovered real scandals and scared the pants off the dodgy elite. Today it is a dumbed down joke. If I was DG I would be spending more money on quality educational stuff and less on trying to compete with ITV on reality TV. On the subject of reality TV they don't need to spend big money on it. Most of the people who appear are wannabes or has beens desperate for a career. These people are so desperate to be on TV they would probably pay the BBC. Lord Hall is leaving according to him he has done a good job I suspect that most BBC insiders would disagree although not for the same reasons as myself. Just like Arthur Scargill the BBC is heading for the cliff and like Scargill they have had plenty of time and opportunity to prevent it. Even now it is not too late they can find the money to fund the over 75's by scrapping BBC news 24 a channel that costs a fortune and nobody watches. They can take an axe to all the middle management bureaucrats and they can put their presenters on a fixed salary scale. I find it laughable that these presenters actually think they are important there are plenty of young and hungry luvvies who will do the job. Remember Jonathon Ross on £5m pa the BBC was wetting itself because he was so important the viewers weren't and after he left the BBC what a stellar career he has enjoyed, NOT. The people in front of the camera are not that important with a couple of exceptions e.g. Graham Norton. Anyway it is obvious that the BBC will plough on regardless doing its best to antagonise the government and the public this will all end in tears. Edited by Badger11 (26 Aug 2020 9.00am)

I can't beleive this thread now tbh. BBC has said that there's no lyrics - for Covid reasons - and that they will return after the pandemic, and we call them 'LIARS' and how they're demonic and should be disbanded based on something they haven't done. Now I know the BBC aren't innocent - They are very much guilty of succumbing to the present trend of outrage at anything deemed by one person of being offensive, but In my view they are still better source of 'news' (and I use that term very lightly) than many other media sources, written or otherwise. They are, afterall, only pandering to a society with many shouty voices, all with vastly differing and contradictory views. It's society that is demanding that things are wiped from our lands history. The BBC is just a reflection of that. If they go against the current trends then they will be lambasted for something else. I only watch a handful of things on the BBC - BBC Breakfast, and *most* of their sporting coverage (which I class as second-to-none). BBC Breakfast I only watch as its the best of a bad bunch - I don't have Sky, can't stand the tabloid media - of which ITv's Pearce Morgan slides into easily), and don't want to watch a Columbo re-run at 8am in the morning. I find that most of it is pretty good and as balanced as you can expect in todays society - with the exception of a few of their interview techniques, which piss me off no end!

From what I read COVID was an excuse. I get you might not be able to have a full chorus but in the past they have had a single singer so could do so again.

It was good to view the program on Carl Beech on Monday, the paedo and fantasist who claimed he had been raped amongst other things by an establishment ring including Harvey Proctor, Leon Brittain etc. Fine investigative reporting from the BBC, what an eye-opener and exposing a quite appalling performance from the Met. How such an organisation could be so taken in defies belief. No fear or favours there from the beeb, Still the best.

Edited by Badger11 (26 Aug 2020 9.00am) You forget that it was a Conservative government under Tony Hall that announced the £125 million savings for the Beeb, and restructuring that decimated local broadcasting in favour of the big shows. Even despite that, what other channel would do - and this is just from a glance at iplayer - a weekly series explaining the latest developments in astronomy which has run for 7 decades, full uniterrupted coverage of the world snooker championships, 'The art of Japanese life', a drama about Barbara Windsor and a programme about travelling across Scotland by railway? If you're annoyed that the BBC is chasing ratings - what do you think commercial TV channels must be like?
