With our team we should realistically be 9th-12th. Under Hodgson we'll most likely finish 13th-15th.

We're at a crossroads, a mid-table crisis that every team experiences.

What do we actually want? That's the Premier League problem. A mid table side can't be satisfied.

Hodgson is slightly underachieving but not Pardew levels of desperation. In the Championship you always have the aim of getting to the Premier League.

In the Premier League it's an existential crisis. Enjoy it while it lasts.

For starters, play like we did yesterday in the cup next week. Put out a decent team, be bold and have a go at a weakened Spurs team. I don't see how a damp squib exit from the cup would help our league form at all.

It doesn't need to follow that a cup run goes hand in hand with a slump in the league like it did under Pards in 2016. It didn't do us any harm in 1990...it built momentum.

We don’t have a huge amount of choice as to who we pick as the squad is now so thin?

We play Spurs Sunday then Saints on Wednesday. Saints have the weekend off. We can't afford to play a full strength team in my opinion. If we were half a dozen points better off I'd agree with you, but we're not, so I say put in the reserves where possible and let them battle it out with Spurs' reserves. Definitely bring Ward, Kelly and Dann in. Give Meyer 90 minutes and also give Wickham a start (if he's up to it). Also, please don't risk Zaha, as he has lost his invincibility when it comes to injuries. Maybe Kai Kai can get another chance before we offload him?

Too late, he's gone.

We are nearly down to the bare bones.

I'm really torn about Roy.
Pros.
Team are playing for him.
Sets us up very well, so we always have a chance.
Very level headed.
Not gonna storm off if we don't buy enough or the players he wants. Which if you believe the anti Parish brigade is why TP and SA left.
Play too safe at home.

Cons.
Think he uses his squad very poorly.
Game management has IMO let us down regularly this season. Subs and timing an issue.
Set plays have been dire.
Very loyal, but that loyalty could lead to injuries in the run in.

In his defence he is working with a squad assembled by Pulis, Warnock, Pardew, Big Sam and FdB. I'm sure he's wanted to bring in players and I'm sure if we could we would, but FFP on the wages appears to be the problem. Plus he can't score the open goals we've missed all season long.

So all things considered, I'm just not sure what's for the best?

Apparently the Liverpool fans site are saying we were the 2nd best team to to play at Anfield this season,2nd only to Man.city, also Palace fans the loudest away fans

Agree 100%, points are far more important than a cup run considering our position.

It’s all intentional. None of them were good enough. This gives us a chance of bringing in one player albeit on loan for now perhaps, of first team quality. Or maybe come summer with all this clutter gone we will be able to afford a big spend once again, because we remained tight in January and last summer and managed to pay off previous summers big spend

I disagree 100% (with all due respect).
I want us to give ourselves the best chance of winning something.

I agree, we are close to relegation zone but we will get enough points to stay up why not go for a decent run in the cup another final would be brilliant with the chance of winning this time??

My 3 big criticisms of Roy are;

- Leaves subs too late, doesn’t seem to trust the bench
- Lack of goals
- Teamsheet nearly always guessable in advance

All 3 of these are arguably down to a lack of investment in the squad in the last few transfer windows. Unfortunately we just don’t seem to have the funds available to take us to the next level.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...
