The fact of the matter is McArthur came on and we looked far more effective. When we are around the 18-yard box he looks like he has the ability to unlock a defence, but across the rest of the pitch he only looks good for quick, short passes. His passing range so far has been limited and he gets knocked off the ball way too easily. We are never going to build the game around him while we have Zaha. I am sure under a different system he could be very effective, but that would require an overhaul of the team as much of it is built around a fast counter-attacking tactic. I want him to succeed as I do every player at Palace, but so far he has only shown glimpses of his talent. To be honest though I was more bothered that Kouyate was on the bench again.

And his shooting is awful....

Ive been disappointed with him this season however I hope he stays and maybe we will see the best of him next season. Hes a young lad in a new country, theres been countless examples of players coming good second season onwards. All our midfielders are really a much of a muchness so to have someone like Max with potential, maybe we need to give him time. Is the correct and sensible answer people in charge will be taking.

Give him another season but looks too lightweight for the premier league.

Sick and tired of watching the mismanagement of Max Meyer. I hope he leaves Palace asap and gets his career back on track, and perhaps in years to come Roy will understand what he has done. Hodgson could write an essay on how to NOT properly integrate foreign signings into the side. Patchy game time, deployed in the wrong position and system, and the only player all year to be subbed off at half time I believe. Talk about destroying a player's confidence completely and utterly. The whole team was rubbish in the first half on Saturday, as we sleep walked through yet another first half at home. Schlupp had a far worse half, yet it is Meyer who gets subbed and now carries the can for how bad that half was, totally unfairly. Why on earth did we sign the player in the first place when he is too lightweight for Roy and Hodgson plays long ball tactics half the time. Meyer is a high class player, Roy seems incapable of playing to his strengths and prefers to deploy him in the incorrect position and with a job of work to do that he is no good at. Let him leave and get his confidence back at a team managed by someone who takes the shackles off and lets players express themselves, and backs them, not puts a target on their back with the earliest substitution all year. Yes, because our ball playing midfielder was nowhere to be found. We were playing the ball around and getting nowhere, and then going long because that was the only option. Luka was essentially being man-marked, Meyer should have had plenty of space to move into and provide another option and he didn't do it. When he did get the ball, he was far too quick to just roll it straight back to someone without taking a touch and looking for other options. I've mentioned it before, but the moment when he got the ball in the No.10 spot, with the opportunity to play in Zaha was the moment for him to show what he can do. Instead he just passed it to Schlupp who was two yard to his left, and it was up to Schlupp to attempt a much more difficult pass which then just ran straight through to the keeper.
Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time. |

We were hoofing the ball up to Batshuayi and bypassing the midfield way too often. Michy is not good enough in the air and its yet another example of the wrong setup by Hodgson. It finally started to work once Benteke was in there. A high class player can play anywhere in midfield and impose himself on the game. Meyer is obviously not anywhere that standard.

Still think there's a fantastic player there but Saturday was abysmal and must have been a career low for him. He starred as a sub for Schalke in that pre season friendly if I remember right? Palace have a long and proud history of signing players who play well against us.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

I made similar sentiments a while back.I think he was a 'Free' because he never wanted to sign another contract with Schalke but I could be wrong on this matter.Despite being on a 'Free', there never appeared to be a great clamour for his services. He has done nothing for us to suggest he is a quality player who just needs to settle.

Do you think Roy needs more experience with overseas players? After all he's only managed Halmstad, Oddevold, Orebro,Malmo,Neuchatel,Inter Milan, Grasshoppers, Copenhagen,Udinese and Viking. Apart from managing the national teams of Switzerlan,UAR and Finland. But maybe you're right.

Like many on this site,I really wanted Meyer to shine.I wasn't really worried about his stature. He is about the same height as Cabaye, and Huddersfield's Alex Pritchard(who I thought was their best attacker on Saturday).Or put another way,Meyer is 7cm taller than the great Billy Bremner, who played in a more physical era and could certainly dish it out.

It is valid to say that very good players can adapt and play different roles, and Meyer has not demonstrated to date that he can do this in his limited opportunities.
