Good point onwards and upwards. Palace's recent record at Goodison isn't too bad and Everton are so unpredictable maybe we can build on today's result at Everton on Saturday. Given how many injuries we have had recently I think to have only lost to Arsenal in the league is not bad all things considered. Would like to have seen the new striker given a run out for the last ten minutes. Roy couldn't afford to make a decision that could cost us. A couple of times they nearly made a counter attack very dangerous.

We can survive on draws, and 12 points from the last 12 games would see us on 39 with a superior goal difference to most of the teams below us. However, I would rather see us win a few to make sure. As to your last point, spot on. Edited by NickinOX (04 Feb 2018 6.52pm)

Thought this was interesting from Roy. Hodgson said: “I’ve only seen him in two training sessions and he has only played two pre-season friendlies and no competitive fixtures since November. I was ideally hoping not to throw him into the deep end until he’s had another week’s training with us but I’m sure he would have acquitted himself well out there.”

The way this season is going it’s anyones guess as to who the three will be going through the trap door and I don’t think the “usual” 40 points will be enough could be 44-45 to ensure safety this season possibly

Kelly’s a valuable squad man but Roy was wrong IMO not to start Sakho today as we missed his presence and calmness first half and Newcastle have a few lumps in their team. Thought Hennessey played particularly well first half and Van Aanholt, Luka and MacArthur also decent. Wilf came into his own second half when moved on the wing and also saved us a couple of times with lung busting defensive effort. One of those days where the harder you try to score the harder it gets but Newcastle there for taking second half and probably happier with the point than us. how many chances FFS? Difficult to pin down a points target but could be unusually high this season maybe 42

Apart from that pen the ref did pretty well everything Benitez could have asked, even down to giving goal kicks for obvious corners and throw-ins their way which were clearly ours.

Surly its clear that Palace along every team from 11th downward are equally matched. Once again it will be a nervy time for one and all of us.

Swansea have now lost Fer & Bony for the rest of the season through injury and both were regular 1st team players. The way the bottom 8 teams have to keep playing each other should mean it is unlikely several of them will rise over us. I'd still prefer our position, points and squad to most of the bottom 8 sides, plus Watford perhaps.

Palace were profligate big time this afternoon with far too many scoring efforts especially over the bar - Roy needs to get them all out for added shooting practice next week. Tough run of games coming up means that any chance on goal needs to be taken a lot better than today's efforts.

On the upside the pitch invader did a good job of pressing their back line. Well better than Benteke anyway!
