As do we.

I'm not so sure about that. First XI yes, but I'd argue we have one of the weakest squad depths in the league.

People keep referring to Bournemouth as a team to go down but if you actually look at it they have a lot more depth than we do.

I suppose the plan will be to spend big in January if we are within touching distance, and rightly so, I just wish it didn't have to come to this. It'll end up costing us in the long term and we'll be spending big dosh on "survival players" again. So when Parish wants another go at the champagne dream, he'll once again be doing it on a white ace budget. Our transfer policy is as amateur as anything.

3rd biggest net spend in the premier league in the last 2 years. That's quite astonishing when you think about it.

If only we had a scouting network and vision at the club to match our spending - we could be looking at a pretty exciting Palace team by now.

Interesting in his post match that Roy mentioned they were stuck on the train. Was that due to the wires coming down? I saw that trains were cancelled up to noon today (Sunday). I guess it's the coach for away travel from now on.

Fair play to them if they resist the temptation. Belief in the end game. Principle, philosophy etc. Got time for that.

So have I, if it relegates them.

We are 'Light' in the forwards department, whereas they can choose from Wilson, Defoe, Afobe, King and Mousset.

Your comment is correct when comparing to e.g. Leicester, Everton and West Ham [I will ignore the Champagne-swiggers for these purposes].

I also agree that our network is still a work in progress; as is our vision - presumably why we recruited Dougie?

However, we have such a high net spend because we spend big but don't sell our best [with a couple of notable exceptions]; and we have been doing this for nearly 5 seasons building largely quality all the way. To say teams like Huddersfield, Brighton and several others have richer, deeper squads than ours is just not true. We complain about Mutch, Lee etc. That is literally the best those teams I mention have as back-up.

Our starting XI on Saturday cost us well over £100m yet we still can't score a goal. Money doesn't necessarily buy you success - especially when you dramatically overpay for average players.

Maybe, but it's the exact type of thing that will bring them back up. It's something for the next 10 years as oppose to the next 5 months. If we carry on the way we are we're gonna go down anyway, whether that's this season or not.

Unsustainable as anything.

In fairness you've named 2 newly promoted teams and as much as I hate to say this, if Brighton stay up and carry on with the model they've been using. They'll soon have a deeper squad than us. Huddersfield have got options as well. They just don't have the headline names, and that's simply because theyre not established enough yet.

Besides the 2 you mentioned, I can't think of another team in the premier league with less depth than us. When you consider the net spend, regardless of our sales, I still think that's pretty astonishing and a hugely missed opportunity. We've clearly had the funds to build a proper squad. Maybe some young talent from abroad to fill the bench and push the first team. But there's none of that really going on besides Riedewald, and considering he can't even keep Martin Kelly out of the team, I'd suggest that won't be the case for long.

The net spend is partly because we don't sell anyone of significant value but also partly because we don't buy smart, at all. We limit our options to pretty much premier league only which is a very inflated market and we buy players that serve the purpose only of survival for the rest of the season. We did it last January and if we're to stay up this season we'll do it again.

To a certain extent I've got respect for it and one has to be grateful as there are many teams who wouldn't do it. But to think the financial strategy we've employed every year will last indefinitely is a pipe dream.

If we carry on the way we are currently, getting six points from 12, we'll end up with around 44 points which sounds OK to me. As for the future, who knows what Pulis' plans are or indeed Roy's; I've no idea of the sustainability of either and nor has anyone else.

Unless we improve the footballing side of things we will go down at some point. It's the reason we fight relegation every season despite the fact we have decent quality in our first team. Being able to defend on its own is not sustainable in football generally. Be that fighting for titles every year or hoping to establish yourself as a premier league team.

It's the reason why perhaps the best defensive coach in Britain has just been sacked. It has a sell by date and eventually leads to stagnation and decline. I fully appreciate Pulis will keep Swansea up if he goes there, but ripping up their entire philosophy won't do their long term plans any good.

Having said that, some of our home performances under Roy have been very encouraging, I won't deny that. He's also comes across as a real gent, I just can't see the long term plan under a guy who's 70.

My understanding is that Swansea will back Clement in the 'Transfer Window' but of course things can change between now and then !
