Yes it's going OTT. We'll see what happens this season. I expect some fans from a few clubs being identified online and reported on local news tv. By the time we play them the songs might be sung by a few or nobody. I doubt anyone would be identified and highlighted on local news unless people are routinely attacking a group of people in an extreme fashion. In which case they likely have bigger problems in their life than watching a football match anyway. Where you do have a point is that privacy is dead now and if you post on a public board, your contribution is something you need to be willing to stand by in person, not just as an online persona.

Rumours of Sol being gay which I think are/were false.

I use to think it was about this....I was greatly surprised when the statistics suggested that it's around one in twenty.....I suspect it's probably higher than that....one in fifteen perhaps. There seems to be a difference between the age generations with older people being more certain of their sexuality than younger people....All very confusing. My feeling is around 5% is probably closer to the truth. I don't think being gay excludes you from enjoying football or going to games though.

Probably. Stupid to post homophobic stuff on Gareth's thread that was likely to be used on BBC tv? Yep. It is stupid, ignorant and pathetic to post homophobic "stuff" irrespective if it is on a thread likely to be used by the BBC or not.

Slating someone's ethnicity, religion, diet, political views, favourite band or appearance as well. And I'm not just saying that because I am a scruffy looking UKIP voter that likes crap music.

There are degrees or everything and acknowledging that doesn't detract from the fact that formally or informally there are limits on the terraces. It's all about knowing your audience. From a personal point of view do I care if someone has a private joke with their mate involving the n word, not really. What's funny is subjective. If it's being yelled into my ear do I care about it. Yes. Apply that to sexuality or race at a game. If people want to pay for some kind of niche fetish service where they can berate a minority I'm sure they'll get takers. If they want to do that at an event I pay to get my kids into, no, do one. A very basic standard of behaviour is not too much to ask, especially when people are supposedly on the same team. Isn't this like saying you can't offend anyone? I don't agree that because someone in an audience finds a comedian's joke offensive that this means that they can't say it for example. I believe that it should be about how popular that comedian is......I'm sorry to repeat it but the marketplace of ideas.

I was talking about comments posted online. For comments at a game at the end of the day everyone pays to watch a game, not just those who can't appear to control their behaviour in any basic way. Those two aspect of the crowd will occasionally but heads. I don't know or care if Campbell is gay. Clearly those hurling abuse cared. He used to get loads of stupid AIDS comments shouted at him too. If people behave like animals, they cannot expect for things to always go their way. That's life. Unfortuntely it often those chipping in with low level abuse that get held to account, while the more vicious types know how to avoid ever being held accountable.

So people are 'animals' if they say stupid things you don't like? Are people 'animals' if they don't feel ok with say homosexuality? Should they be banned from ever mentioning that? What other opinions are people 'animals' for holding? Edited by Stirlingsays (07 Aug 2017 3.05pm)

All I've really stated is that a racist comment involving the n word being bellowing into my ear is something that's not acceptable to most sensible people. Or rather an equal unpleasant reaction can be expected. People seem to have this fantasy outlook that they can reel off the most grossly offensive things to man, then go into snowflake mode once they get a reaction. No, they get their say and they get a reaction. Part and parcel.
