I know what you say makes sense and this is the difficulty with being a supporter, i think with my heart rather than like a chairman thinking with his head. In the football world where money is king, it feels wrong but i know we can't live in the past but my gut reminds me of Davids and also Brolin, when he got his contract extended he was quite frankly sh1t3 and i can't help feeling if we take Adabayor on a long contract we'll end up worse off, i don't want to end up like Portsmouth, is Adabayor the start of a slippery slope downwards, the unrest of the other players all wanting more money, future potential new signings expecting bigger wages. You want to end up like Portsmouth ? I think you're mixing apples and oranges. Nowhere did I say that I thought we should sign Adebayor on an eighteen month contract; I simply pointed out that he was right to negotiate and go after what he wanted. After the negotiations are complete both parties will have a decision to make. As to whether, at that point, I would give him an eighteen month deal, it depends on a variety of factors entirely unrelated to Adebayor himself like who else is available? How much faith do we have in our present forwards starting to score? Are we prepared to wait for something better in the summer? How much will an eighteen momth deal cost us? Without knowing the answers to those questions, it's hard to give an informed opinion. All true and i don't know the answers and yes we need a goal scorer. Difficult, which is maybe why things are taking so long, maybe AP can handle him and he'll end up our top scorer, tricky one.......
and it's goodnight from me....... |

Initially I didn't want Adebayor and both my gut says no and my head says no too (for reasons I have mentioned earlier in this thread). However I see a lot of people say on a short term contract they would give him a chance. Although I wouldn't want him at the club I could live with this BUT he seems to be holding out for a longer contract. Who actually wants to have him sign for more than an initial 6 month deal?

Not for me. 6 months at the most. There are loads of variables whether he can step up to the plate and it would be a fools errand to go longer than this. To be honest I would rather stick with what we have or look elsewhere then wait for the end of the season when the market might be better than offer a long contract to him.

Give him whatever he wants for a short-term deal. If he wants more money in exchange for giving up on a long-term deal, then do it. Europa League is still a possibility; I'd rather try Adebayor than do nothing. Nobody is going to sell Palace a notable striker. They're just not. It's Ade or it's nothing.

My mate just text saying he has seen Adebayor in croydon. The thought of Zaha Bolasie and Adebayor does interest me though.

As every day the deadline draws nearer, the more I want him. Desperate times. I thought Spurs had paid him off so as a free agent he's not restricted to the transfer window ...is that right??? You'd think as a money grabbing mercenary barsteward he'd jump at the chance to show what he's capable of and negotiate a deal on the basis of his results. Now where did we encounter something like that before ...Mr Pulis?

On a serious note, the signing deadline to play on a Saturday is Friday lunchtime if I'm not mistaken so these deals usually tend to happen on Thursday or Friday morning as teams try to finalise things so players are available for the weekend.

At best it would be the FA cup game. Even if he did sign before 12 Friday he would need international clearance which can take up to a week.
This roller coaster I am on just won't stop. |

Why would he need International clearance for an internal free transfer, you only need International clearance for International transfers to make sure that there is no outstanding issues, and as Adebayor was registered with Spurs his registration is with the FA. Also International clearance except at weekends is usually within 24hrs, unless there are underlying problems with a players registration, only possible issue would be Work and Residence permits, and as he has been a permanent resident in the UK for 10 years, and an EU resident since 1999, under EU law that would be automatically renewed and permanent after 7 years.
