This isn't about Covid. It's about procurement processes and pandemic planning.

Not to worry I'm sure the civil servants behind all this got their Knighthoods.

If I recall the priority at the time was cutting red tape and getting the job done.

That’s what happens. Making a turn from taking risks..

Due diligence obviously didn't play a big part in the process. Factor in the money spent by the public on masks, etc, and some people made an awful lot of money out of the situation.

Always a consolation.

£13.6 bn spent on PPE with £9.9 bn of it written off by January this year doesn't show that the experts knew any more than anyone else.

We overspent on PPE because a lot of people made their fortunes on the back of Covid.
The Civil Service procured it all but Matt Hancock got the blame and the Tories still are.
Yes, they were the Government of the day but we had to buy stuff quickly and from wherever at whatever price.
In my construction business we were paying between 5 and 10 times over the odds to get the right masks and definitely 5 times more for other PPE.
We got ripped off, didn't store the stuff properly0 and so on.
This kind of crap has been going on for 50 years where Governments/public sector just waste our money but the people who actually waste it never get the blame - just the Minister at the top of the tree.

During a period when Covid was a major threat and the pandemic planning rapidly seen to be unsuitable. So it’s inevitably about Covid.

Some of the Health advisors have already been recognised. As they should. They provided calm, reassuring practical advice to a deeply worried people.

You might think they were all wrong. Others don’t.

What would have happened if you didn’t get the PPE?

Workers laid off? Workers refusing to work? Lost contracts? Bancruptcy?

Because although exercises were run the planning was based on the assumption that it was a flu epidemic that needed to be prepared for. We haven’t seen how comprehensive any exercises were so remain ignorant of what, if anything, was identified. No doubt the enquiry will be examining this.

Really?

“The health secretary told parliament that Exercise Cygnus looked at UK preparedness for a flu pandemic, not other pandemics, but the truth is that he’s covering up multiple secret reports on preparedness for other pandemics, including a coronavirus pandemic”

"A medical practice has accepted that a 26-year-old man who died within two weeks of taking AstraZeneca's Covid-19 vaccine was not told the correct risk."

It's even reported by the BBC.

So a protocol wasn’t followed! It happens. Would the young man have refused the vaccine if it had been? Rare side effects happen. Being ultra cautious with anything where they have been seen, and alternatives are available, is just common sense. It doesn’t though undermine the fundamental truth that these vaccines saved many more lives than they harmed. Mistakes are always possible but you don’t deny people the benefit of the vaccines as a consequence. To try to eliminate the mistakes.
