One of the problems with life is the tendency to see everything through our own lens without acknowledgement that we can never have the full picture. That isn't a criticism of any of us but rather a statement that we all project our attitudes and personalities onto the events we interpret before us....it's unavoidable. However, there are some who are better at taking the balance of a situation than others. I think with Trump some get overly fixated upon him and think that he just somehow cheated/tricked/lucked his way to president...Trump increased his votes this election...in my view at least, polarisation won't be reducing.....The emergence of Trump was a symptom of division, not its creation. Time will reveal I guess.

Well, I don't see how Trump wins from here. However, while you take your pleasure in mockery, let's not forget your mockery of Tux over Bitcoin....something you own yourself. He's doing rather well at the moment. Oh come on. It’s fair game to call out fanaticism and delusion - anyone who chooses to make life decisions and try to brainwash others based on the whim of the internet version of the pied piper needs ridiculing. When someone starts sharing screenshots of tweets from different years claiming that the time codes translate into some kind of hidden message... well fine if you think that’s the ramblings of a sane individual that doesn’t sleep during the day and obsess over a round letter at night, to the detriment of any sort of social and personal life. Re. Bitcoin - There’s a difference between owning something knowing the pitfalls and risks, and being clear that you’re effectively profiting from a risky investment in part spurred on by average Joes piling in off the back off a massive hot hand fallacy vs what TUX was doing. Which was completely ignoring any negatives and claiming Bitcoin, or a similar unregulated currency would be, with complete certainty, replacing the financial system in its entirety. And to make it even worse, telling other people with little to no knowledge to pile in, without even considering their financial situations. It’s on a par with religious zeal and could lead to many people making massive losses that they cannot afford. It’s disgraceful. Unsurprisingly the benefit of others buying in is an increase in profit for him. I’ve said before there’s no doubt the price could go to 100k or more - but it’s not a currency. It’s an Wild West investment that you need to be putting money into that you can afford to lose. His utopian view was cute, but exactly the same level of naive as the early adopters of the internet.
Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons. |

More than you'd think yesterday's fanaticism and delusion, even outright illness are tomorrow's accepted defaults (if not perhaps mine). We see that with environmentalism, homosexuality, transgender and even economic policy. I'd agree that there is a line where claims and reasonable skepticism have to meet.....though rarely a situation where we are above looking at something. I'd also say that perhaps I'm being a hypocrite in ribbing you over mockery as I'm hardly anything like a saint. Still, nothing wrong with a bit of gentle pot stirring. Originally posted by SW19 CPFC

Still, we could also look at it as Tux genuinely believing this is the future and looking to help others....I believe he and Funty have a past in finance and, if I'm not mistaken, had similar views. So, would you countenance that good intentions could also be there? Edited by Stirlingsays (12 Dec 2020 6.12pm)

That's too simplistic. Of course, the divisions that gave us Trump won't just fade away when he goes. I think being "fixated" on Trump is though thoroughly justified. He is unique. This has been by far the strangest Presidency I have witnessed. A businessman with a dubious history turned reality TV star, who lacked any relevant experience, without class, tact or humility. He is not a Republican at all. He is all Trump and all fraud. Loved by his "base" as someone who says things as they like them to be said, irrespective of the fact that he lives in a different world to most of them. However not every Republican is part of Trump's "base", substantial though it is. I cannot imagine the GOP hierarchy wanting to run Trump, or a Trump clone, in 2024 so will be trying to find a safer candidate. Someone who can deliver the agenda without the controversy. They are still scared of his power over his "base" but that's going to fade. So the primaries are going to be interesting. Trump walked them last time but people now have experience of where that led and might show more caution. If they don't I cannot see the electorate as a whole ever voting for such a man again. Especially after we all learn the detail of the pending court cases. Once bitten a million times shy. The divisions will still be there but they won't be so obvious or so disruptive. Trump's "base" would still vote Republican unless he was so stupid as to attempt to run as an independent and split the right-wing vote.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

Texas GOP calls For new union of States, and we will see how much traction is gained within republican states as over twenty states joined Texas's lawsuit. Some might be dancing but I don't think they quite understand the perspective of their opposites. Edited by Stirlingsays (12 Dec 2020 8.49pm)

Hopefully those involved can be identified and held to account. The same goes for any other recorded incidents no matter who the culprits are.

That is crazy - not surprising maybe as nothing that happens in the US can surprise anyone, but crazy the same. I would expect Trump to come out and condemn this.
