The political landscape has totally shifted since the days of slavery, so that claim is fairly disingenuous. It is impossible to connect Democrats of the days of slavery with what the party stands for now as it has completely shifted.

Pushed back against every major civil rights act????

FDR enacted the new deal and multiple pro civil rights acts including EO8802 in 1941 which was designed to prohibit not hiring people based on skin color.

JFK started and LBJ got the civil rights act passed in 1964. The most important civil rights legislation ever.

I am all for open debate but what you said is completely inaccurate.

Already explained here, Penge Eagle, maybe you missed it.

You forgot the legal changes that Bill Clinton made to mandating housing loans for poor areas........which, played a part in the 2008 world crash.

Affirmative action is another one......probably the single most racist official policy still in use within modern society.

The Democrats have been buying black votes for decades and....in recent decades race baiting to intimate corporations and institutions to cower further to race....instead of being focused purely on meritocracy as they should do.

'Maine' forgets many things that doesn't suit his ideology tbf.
The bottom line is that the world is in a very very bad place. People never instigated the situation that we've faced for years now, politicians have. The vast majority of us want little more than getting on with our lives/neighbours and enjoying life for what it is but no, that's far too simplistic for the political elite. Divide and rule etc etc has always been the way forward so nothing is new.
Politics doesn't matter and it continually baffles me why so many put so much effort into thinking it does.
It's a manufactured crock that only ever benefits...................'not us'.

Oh well.

Perhaps you should answer my questions first, if you can, to even remotely justify your statements:

1. So how do/did the democrats, who controlled neither branch of government for the first 2 years of Trump's reign "keep black people on welfare cheques" exactly?

2. Who exactly in the democrat party tells blacks they can "never succeed".

I have listened to a lot of what Candace Owens has said. Sadly she is just another biased talking head, plenty on the left and right.

I already explained to you why there is a strong bond between African Americans and democrats. FDR and new deal, and JFK/LBJ and the civil rights act are part of the beginnings of that.

Black people voting democrat isn't exactly the only largely automatic vote in world politics. You can often put that down to a herd mentality handed down from generation to generation.

Perhaps another question you might want to think about is why the hell would black people vote republican these days exactly?

Edited by Maine Eagle (05 Jun 2019 6.30pm)

I have explained it...

1. As you should know, both branches of government don't sign the welfare cheques because that is devolved to the (Democrat run) state.

2. As I said earlier, Democrat politicians and the likes of CNN CONSTANTLY tell black voters that the reason they are not performing as well as other groups - like graduating from high school - is because of racism. You telling me this doesn't happen? Even you shout 'racist' and 'nazi' every 5 minutes. Think about it... And when you give handouts, you discourage self-improvement. Conservatives encourage personal responsibility and hand ups, not hand outs in order to succeed.

Candace is not just any old talking head. She's someone who switched from the Democrat party to the Republican because she could SEE how the real racists in the Democrats operated. So she is VERY unique. She dismantles every political opponent with ease because she is passionate about her subject and has facts on her side.

Why would black people vote Republican? Because a Republican POTUS has delivered record-breaking job figures for minorities, while criminal justice reform legislation is huge for the black community. It has had bipartisan support with people like Van Jones applauding Trump for his work.

Oh, I'm glad you mentioned LBJ.

Johnson’s Great Society expanded welfare to black single mothers to make them dependent on the government. And as a result, broken homes has messed up black communities all over the US.

In 1960, around 20 percent of black children were living with just a mother.

In 2012, the percentage of black births that were made to unmarried black mothers was 72 per cent.

"I'll have those n*ggers voting Democrat for the next 200 years" - President Lyndon B. Johnson. Sadly, it's worked.

Interesting idea this "buying of votes" concept in the context of a meritocracy.

Is it not more accurate to say that any Party who seeks to develop a fairer and more equal society in which merit, and not anything else, is the only thing which matters, is going to produce policies which support and encourage those segments of that society which have suffered most from past discrimination?

If those segments then support that Party then is that really "buying their votes"? Or is it just doing what is right?

Trump accuses the Democrats of wanting an open border so they can profit from immigrants. This also seems illogical to me. Open borders would surely lose many more votes than it would gain. A fair, sensitive and humanitarian approach is what decent people seek.

It's not illogical at all.

Democrats say: 'We love Hispanic immigrants and you are welcome to the USA. Ignore those nasty, racist Republicans'. The immigrants move to Sanctuary Cities where the state protects illegal aliens from ICE. And employers turn a blind eye to dodgy papers – I witnessed it first hand when I lived in LA. Come election time, who do you think the illegals vote for? Those nice, welcoming Democrats! Especially in states like California where no voter ID is required.

Pure meritocracy is the fairest system to judge people by bar none.

As for the 'past discrimination' idea. There are so many holes in that logic that any serious examination of it renders it quickly ridiculous.

The Jews are the most maligned group in history, yet don't require state intervention. East Asians were given no favours either and find themselves at the top of the earnings tree.

So only democrat states issue welfare checks to black people? Ok. Not a laughable and nonsensical biased argument there at all.

Plenty of poor white people get welfare checks in republican states. Must be a conspiracy.

So in your blinkered world, sitting somewhere in England, you don’t think that any black person has ever been held back from a job or opportunity because of the color of their skin?

Are you black, Penge Eagle? I guess not. White English people trying to opine on matters of race in America makes me chuckle. Maybe that 6 months you spent in LA allowed you to walk in the shoes of an African American brother?

The conservative wish to destroy welfare and the health service here shouldn’t be confused with trying to get people to stand on their own 2 feet.

Your LBJ quote is disputed as you know, but he certainly used the word, as did just about everyone of his age from where he grew up. He was still instrumental in passing civil rights legislation started by JFK.

Damn anyone for giving financial aid to a single black mother working 2 jobs, she should be given a hand up and sorted out with a 3rd job on Sundays to make ends meet.

If you want to see poor people milking the benefits system for all it’s worth, look no further than your own doorstep there in blighty.

The lame " your not black you don't know what it's like " argument.
Well in today's society try watching every single word and how you make sentences to avoid the label of racist.
The point in that is the pendulum has swung 180 and now the persecution has gone the other way.
David lammy was correct.
Why are whites trying to be the head of the snake when it comes racial issues.
Made it worse in my humble opinion.
If it was left to black people we would be in a better place for sure.
You Maine are one of the aforementioned heads.

Like raising tariffs on imported goods that he thinks will hurt the exporting country but will actually be paid by the US consumers, cause reciprocal responses and trade wars which disrupt world trade, resulting in economic uncertainty everywhere.

Trump is a disaster. He has the economic nous of a 5 year old.

Believing that the USA will rush to negotiate a trade deal with us after Brexit that actually benefits us is naivety taken to extremes.

Oh I am biased. I am biased against anyone who tells lies, attacks anyone who criticises and uses bullying as a negotiating tactic.
