SOP for " celebs " when found out doing something reprehensible is to play the depression/mental health/ addiction card. e g. the moronic Price woman, a long history of drug and drink fuelled driving and never done a day in jail, poor thing
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

As long as the children involved take comfort from this conspiracy of silence. Incitement to violence is illegal. But I will say that I didn't shed a tear when Ian Huntley got a life sentence. Let's all remember how serious a crime noncery is. Those who empower or protect a nonce are almost as wicked as the nonce himself. They too deserve jail time.

I don’t know, anymore than anyone does, on who knew what and when. There has been loads of speculation and I don’t doubt people must have realised later that the behaviour they recall now seems dodgy. I never met Savile but I bought a house from somebody who knew him well and whose daughter spent a lot of time in Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The stories she told me then now seem very creepy but at the time he was a national hero, raising funds for the hospital, working as a porter and getting us all to clunk-click. He duped everyone. I am much less informed about Hall but unless someone had made a complaint about Savile what were the BBC supposed to do back then? Today it would be different. Here we go, back to the " I knew Jethro syndrome ". Your much less informed comment I agree with but would not limit it to Hall. Would seem you did not spend much of your leave of absence reflecting, carry on

Apparently the Sun have records on Edwards doing this kind of thing from 2018.

The discussion then becomes, do we extend the same scrutiny to all taxpayer funded jobs or is the BBC different because they have such a distorted pay structure and history of covering up.

And this wasn't even an internal inquiry , whistle-blowing, or any official review that uncovered this case. This was The Sun's "investigative journalism unit" probably looking to redress some balance after the phone-tapping cases. Edited by Forest Hillbilly (13 Jul 2023 4.55am)

Better not via taxation, which allows political pressure to be mounted. I object to paying for the BBC. Not because I don’t value it but because i don’t value the politics or decision making capabilities of its leaders. (Stuff like paying people like Lineker and Ross the money they do) and also because I do not believe it is impartial. If it is so valued worldwide let them pay a little more for it and earn overseas advertising revenue on it so we can have it gratis. On this Huw Edwards thing there is much concern about the BBC actions because of the past. On Saville everyone hides behind the ‘noone knew but with hindsight’ card. Bollox. I watched that Louis Theroux documentary on him where he followed him around and I knew from the moment I watched that programme that he was an absolute wrongun. Take Ant McPharlan. If I got done for drink driving I’d be sacked. End of. No arguments. If I’d committed the offences that the Price woman has I’d be inside but she’s on TV, being interviewed about her struggles. TV Companies (the BBC included) simply have a different moral compass to the general populace and one that’s badly skewed in my opinion. I particularly struggle that Saville he got away with it for so long. It must have been so bloody obvious as it certainly was from that programme. No one will ever convince me that many blind eyes weren’t and aren’t turned all over the place and I suspect there are others. Time to out them all and get the trust back.

Yep, we are observers looking in from afar but many of us recognise that we have seen this sort of sordid production a few times over the years. Someone on Twitter posted this classic Little Britain clip. It just looks like an old guy with means sexually exploiting teenagers. A case of classical dirty old man pederasty. Having said that, it probably is true that the guy is troubled and mixed up and it's not actually illegal....but if that were our teenager I know most of us know how we would be feeling about it. On Twitter the usual leftist loonies like Owen Jones are feverishly writing their wish soy list where the Sun gets financially ripped apart in the defamation courts......but personally I view that as highly unlikely. In my estimation they have been tracking Edwards for some time.

I've said on this board many times I was told about Saville back in the 1970s by my cousin who worked for the BBC. It was widely known about within the organisation but people didn't want to look under stones.

I have lots of experience of dealing with depression and mental health issues, thanks. Spent 3 days at my daughter’s bedside, still never mind eh. Your hatred of the Sun may have blinkered your thinking in all this Edited by Spiderman (13 Jul 2023 7.54am)
