I don’t know, anymore than anyone does, on who knew what and when. There has been loads of speculation and I don’t doubt people must have realised later that the behaviour they recall now seems dodgy. I never met Savile but I bought a house from somebody who knew him well and whose daughter spent a lot of time in Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The stories she told me then now seem very creepy but at the time he was a national hero, raising funds for the hospital, working as a porter and getting us all to clunk-click. He duped everyone. I am much less informed about Hall but unless someone had made a complaint about Savile what were the BBC supposed to do back then? Today it would be different. A few people knew.

Anyone who does is misrepresenting the actual reasoning. Right, but it was them that I was referring to rather than your good self. Up until recently I hadn't heard of you.

This is the full statement from his wife. Are you suggesting she is lying? I didn’t know he has a history of depression. Did you? Do you know she isn’t?

As long as they can get to the bottom of this....if you forgive the pun.....and ascertain what really happened with objectivity (something I regard the BBC as very selective on) then there will be fairness to all parties. I've often made that point that people need to live their principles and this is an illustration of the public's instinctive rejection of hypocrisy. That related principle that people given positions of trust need to embody the image they present as....not be the opposite of what they present. I read the message his wife put out. If that is true that Edwards has been suffering with deep depression for years, I'd question the judgement of putting him into the public eye.....Also, being depressed isn't exactly connected to being sexually exploitative so it doesn't quite fit unless she's trying to say he's judgement impaired......Which could be an excuse any criminal could use for example.

'It's all gone quiet, over there'. The Sun (yuk) says it has no plans to publish further allegations about Huw Edwards and will co-operate with BBC investigation.

It would be nice to properly understand the facts around this story as the Sun have not been a reliable source of information which is rather ridiculous considering they're the outlet who broke the news. I can also do without the moralising from politicians looking to leverage this for scoring points against the beeb. At last count there are 57 active complaints against politicians for sexual misconduct (all parties) so those in glass houses... Edited by Wilesy01 (12 Jul 2023 8.50pm)

Paedos and perverts aren't mentally normal. The reason no more is published is police investigation. Again, more subterfuge.

I live in the real world. One I have travelled in a great deal. I know how our BBC is regarded elsewhere. In only in little pockets of the biased right do they think as you seem to. The BBC is one of our greatest achievements and probably our biggest asset. Those who seek its destruction should read Simon Jordan’s book. At least as far as the cover.

The issues didn’t stop him working right up until last week. Neither did they stop him partying at a recent award ceremony. Complete coward by getting his wife to make the statement, she should be working on taking him for all she can get. God you are sad The Sun knew this but still chose to use him as a sacrificial lamb to get at the BBC, which it hates.

Did you read the whole of that link? It exonerates the BBC as a whole whilst saying a few people had noticed behaviour that ought to have been reported. That it wasn’t isn’t the fault of the BBC and, in my opinion, not really the fault of the people either. Those were different days and judging yesterday by today’s standards via hindsight might make the self righteous feel vindicated but isn’t actually very helpful. Looking back on what I was told at the time if I heard anything similar today I would definitely report it. Back then I thought this lady is an adult, they are her daughters so none of my business and if I had gone to the police they would have either laughed it off or arrested me for defaming a national treasure.
