You should see the interview (it's only about 2 minutes). Steve was specifically asked if Marc had requested a move away. At first he kind of takes a politician's response by not answering the question directly, but at the end specifically states that Marc is not putting any pressure on the club.

I tend to agree with you. I like Marc a lot, but I also believe he has his defensive frailties (mostly heading the ball).

As we now have a squad with some depth and promising young players, I'm fine if he leaves for the currently quoted price, but are equally happy if we keep him. Steve, Dougie and the board know our financial situation and have kept us in good standing. I trust they'll do what's right for the club for this season and the future after that.

I have not had the opportunity to view the interview, however I am led to believe that Guehi has not been thumping on Steve's door and vociferously requesting a move.

In terms of his ability, someone averred he was one of the "Top defenders in the world".Whilst I recognise his qualities, I do not view him in such exalted company.
Perhaps in time, with greater experience, I will conclude that he has reached such a level.

I just read that. Fantastic stuff, let's put it up to £80m.

In which case, Newcastle could buy that £20 million player and save themselves £50 million.
Do you read your own posts? You and I might think that Guehi is overrated, but those in the game disagree.

Sure, we can replace him, like we have replaced Olise with Sarr.
Sarr is no Olise.

I think Richards is better than Guehi, and if Guehi is that good, why is it only Newcastle seem to be bidding for him.

“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn

What you and I think is of little consequence.

In this situation, with Palace under no pressure to sell, all is as it seems.
Someone either offers us what we want, or he stays.

Very amusing as with 18 months left we are definitely not at panic stations. Even next summer with just a year left we could get £50m for him.

I find that sort of "article" so embarrassing. It comes across like a 12-year-old girl's diary entry.

Exactly. Football forums are the place to whine like a little girl, not media articles!

I suspect that the fans of Newcastle and we are more upset about exchanged words, offers, rejected offers etc than the people involved in the negotiations. It's business as usual for the negotiators and all the arguments of the opposing parties have been heard many times before and probably used by themselves. They probably spend more time thinking about the 5-star restaurant where they will close a deal if it materialises.

I have a horrible feeling he will stay and then spend most of the season in the treatment room.

Please may it not be so. The Geordies will never stop laughing.

He is not the best in the air, but if he went he would leave a hole. Is Lacroix (assuming he is replacement) as quick and strong on the ground?
