I think Forest's home crowd carried them a bit last season and their away record suggests Cooper isn't great at managing a team to win a game of football when they're up against it which is a red flag IMO. That said I don't think we should delude ourselves about the level of coach we should be looking at. Some of our managerial recruitment attempts and departures have looked pretty ham fisted and the ownership structure still looks very messy. I'd think that SP will like Cooper's knowledge of youth football.

I don’t know why I always remember this, but Neil Warnock got the sack second time around when we only had 19 points after the game in between Christmas and new year which was a 0-0 draw against QPR. So thinking on what you said, Roy’s got three tough games to get us beyond that total as we’re on 17. Not saying he’ll get the sack if he doesn’t get beyond that figure because we’ve learnt a lot since then and we could easily rack up enough points in the new year to stay out of trouble, but I always sort of gauge how we’re doing each season because I remember that season Apologies for being a pedant but I think Warnock was fired after the boxing day loss at home to Southampton. I stayed to the death and can remember the awkwardness between him and some of the players as they left the pitch - he looked a dead man walking so to speak. Keith Millen took the team for two 0-0 away draws at QPR and Villa before Pardew took the team at Dover. IMO Pardew's first year was the most exciting we've played since promotion. IIRC Pardew and Steve Parish were acquainted prior to his appointment.

I knew it was around that time. I agree about Pardew, he made it clear he was letting the shackles off and beating spurs in his first league game was a brilliant start. I don’t hate Pardew like some do, I know we were like the keystone cops most of the time, but at least we attacked with him in charge and I love the way he went for the FA Cup, even if our league form did suffer, it certainly wasn’t dull with him in charge

I stayed to the death and can remember the awkwardness between him and some of the players as they left the pitch - he looked a dead man walking so to speak. What I remember about that period was an interview Warnock gave on TV a few games before. We were at home, live on sky and got a result (perhaps a hard earned draw?). Warnock told the interviewer how pleased he was with the teams effort and attitude, before saying something that stuck in my mind afterwards. He said 'If these players are not having me (as has apparently been suggested) then that performance is a funny way of showing it'. I remember thinking that I hadn't heard a single rumour of discontent, and neither had anyone else I knew. Nothing. Not a dickie bird. As you say, it subsequently appeared the club found Warnock inadequate for the top flight, but none of it took place in public or through the press. Compare that to the bulls*** a Manchester United manager has to handle. Sniping from players on social media, off the record briefings to the press by insiders, and disruptive agents sowing bad seeds here and there. I'm sure there aren't many who would turn down united to manage Palace, but the next man will not have a fraction of the bulls*** to swim through as you get at other clubs.

Cooper's done a great job at Forest, you can always pick holes but we rated him before he proved himself so he is undoubtedly a very talented manager and we are the right size of club for him at this time ... looks a great fit and his name rhymes with super.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |
