Sorry, with respect, that's total tosh. He's woefully inept at this level and we absolutely HAVE to bring in another if we want to move forward. In an ideal world, someone like Mateta is a 3rd choice striker who you thrown on as a hail mary. He only got a decent run this year, in which time he improved no end. It's too early to write him off; people want instant gratification and results with new players. Some need time to bed in to a team - Strikers more than most, as they are mostly dependant on supply. This coming season will be his (and Edouards) to prove himself. if by next Summer nothing's changed, then is the time to look for a different option.

Forwards take time to fully develop their skills. Both Mateta and Edouard still have 2-3 years of improvement and from what I have seen both could become very useful. Especially Edouard who has tremendous touch and skill. Writing off strikers too early is IMO a mistake. We sold Collymore for £100K. That worked out well!!! Our management team must have seen something they liked with these guys. Lets see how they go this season.

Mateta will come good this season - no need for another centre forward with him and Edouard.

Serious question - how much do you think the club would need to spend to buy a forward who is a clear upgrade on the 3 we have, and, assuming the club has £30m set aside for Doucoure and Aribo, how would you raise those additional funds for a forward of that calibre? Who are you not signing, and/or who are you selling? Remember last summer, people were chomping at the bit to get Adam Armstrong from Blackburn, luckily he choose Southampton and went on to score a total of 2 goals for them all season. Getting a prolific goal scorer in our price range is virtually impossible.

He was in the Bundesliga and when he's been given minutes he's scored for us at a regular rate. That's the black and white of it. Subjectively, he knows where the goal is and gets his shots away. But, that is not to say I think he is amazing. His hold-up play needs a lot of work, he is prone to looking like a giraffe and he makes mistakes. Clinton talks a lot about him. He says how he thought he wouldn't make it when he arrived but that he's completely changed his mind on him. You can see defenders don't enjoy playing against him because he's so large and ungainly. He is definitely an anomaly.

“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

Gotta apply the same rule to Armstrong; 2nd season he has to prove himself. Not really, apart from amount of time played. Edouard 261 minutes between goals average of time played Armstrongs value has gone down, Edouard stayed the same.

And the majority of players in front of mateta play for the top 6, just shows how hard it is to find a consistent scorer in this league, im happy with our striking options definitely wouldn't be looking for a forward this window, I would like eduoard to be given more minutes at 9 next season as I don't think his had a fair chance yet.

FWIW, I think the re-tooled midfield and continued growth to the PV style, we will see better play up front instead of always relying upon 1-2 guys to make a spectacular play. We will get increased growth in the midfield play with more threats spreading the scoring opportunities more widely. Stay by the PV plan of wants.
