Nice to know UEFA really stamped their authority on the clubs involved . . .

The obvious punishment would have been a ban from European competition for 12 months but, of course, money and tv companies would not allow it. A fine that is an insult to fans, at least club owners are paying

I am glad the various clubs got fined, but given the amount of money in the game (at the very top end) + the fact that they were willing to jump ship so readily, leaving behind the very mechanism that enabled them to develop & the amount of money that they were anticipating earning out of the ESL venture, isn't the the level of the fine pretty much pocket money for these clubs.

In reality there was no precident for this act.
UEFA have to be careful not to throw the baby out with the bath water.
I'm sure if any more clubs try this type of baffoonary again it will result in bans.

Unfortunately, they’ve probably not broken any rules so it will be difficult to impose any sanctions.

All the FA, PL, and UEFA can do is update their membership terms, which will need to be voted through my it’s existing members. Given there’s so many pre-season mini tournaments now, it will be tricky to legitimate for a blanked ban on clubs organising unsanctioned tournaments.

With 3 clubs reaching European finals, it’s becoming apparent that the premiership is already becoming the super league.

Very good feature in today's Sunday Times magazine about the discussions, negotiations and financial implications leading up to the doomed announcement.

The numbers are mind blowing and the worrying thing is, the Spanish and Italian clubs are still looking to drive forward with a compromise arrangement.

Anyway something to read while you wait for kick off.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Heard they're all skint. Yet still paying silly wages and massive transfer fees.

Watching Chelsea parade their latest 60m pound signing before our game to go with the other 300m worth of signings they have made this season underlines the complete farce this league is. We might be in the same league with notionally the same rules but we are light years apart.

Studies are now showing that a significant proportion of young people are more interested in the story than the sport. Formula 1 has realised this with Drive to Survive. If they could make that real time we could all skip the boring as bats*** races.

Football is already following this and soon we'll be able to miss the tedious games and just watch the dramas.

Then I realised this is the ultimate super league, played out by megastar TV characters in front of corporate box only stadiums (1m to meet Ronaldo, nice) with digital crowds inserted for those still watching otherwise football is football manager and just fast forward the playing bit.

Ultimate super league is the answer. It will hoover up all the bulls*** into a self contained sponsorship wonderland. No promotion and relegation - yes please. Then the next level clubs wont need to spend millions trying to get into the super league and all the millionaires can shuffle off and leave the rest of the clubs to play for trophies with a reasonable expectation of winning them.

They could even change the rules, have quarter hours of power with less players, balls with flashing lights and crazy named teams. Do what you like I wont be watching.

I want the super league, I dont want promotion and relegation, bye bye Chelsea, Man City, Real Madrid, you wont be missed. We can all go back to sitting in the rain, talking bollocks about football and looking forward to the fourth round of the cup.

I thought I read somewhere that Top 6 had been replaced by Super 7 (Now includes Sandcastle)

With a cup of hot Bovril rather than a designer beer or fancy water

Once Utd are owned by Qatar which has a ring of the inevitable about it - we're one step further to the Super League. Puts Palace's finances into stark contrast.
